Intermatic pool timer

I just purchased an Intermatic 104 timer and went to go install it. From the wiring diagram, it appears that I'm supposed to put one wire to lead #1 and one to #3. The problem is, that I've got two wires coming in to the box. One is 110, and one is 220. It seems like I need two 110 wires. Am I missing something?

j,

Well, you can't have one wire with 220 volts on it... To get 220 volts you should have two wires.. Each wire has 110 volt between the wire and ground/neutral, but between the two wires you will get 220 volts because the voltage on the two wires is 180 degrees out of phase...

How about a picture...

Thanks,

Jim R.

I'm assuming you're checking voltage with a digital voltmeter.

Sounds to me like you placed your ground lead from the voltmeter on one of the 'hot' legs, then placed the positive lead on the neutral (reading 110V), and then on the other 'hot' leg (220V).

Pics would help.
