My pool was built about 9 months ago. We have an intellichlor salt chlorine generator. The lights won't stay on. It will work for a week or a few days then the lights turn off. How do I safely restart the unit? Do I press the reset button on my control panel to reboot the salt generator? Or turn off the panel breaker? If I unplug and plug back in the salt generator from the control panel do I just throw the switch for the control panel then unplug and plug back in then turn the control panel back on? I just want to make sure I don't screw anything up.

Welcome to the forum
You posted a picture of your automation system Intellicenter. Your Intellichlor is controlled by the Intellicenter.

Mary,

Just to make sure you understand..

The salt cell will only have lights on when the Pump/Filter relay is closed.. The Pump/Filter relay will only close when in the Pool mode or Spa mode. Depending on the programming in your IntelliCenter, your system may not be in the Pool mode or Spa mode.

Next time this happens, please show as a close up of the IntelliCenter's display.

Edit.. Looking at your pic, it appears the IntelliCenter's display is blank.. So it seems this is an IntelliCenter issue, and not a salt cell issue.

If only 9 months old, you need to get your pool company to come back out and fix or replace it.

Thanks,

Jim R.

The IntelliCenter display will be blank when idle. You need to tap on it to wake it up. If the pic was taken without taping on the display then there is likely nothing wrong with the IntelliCenter.

First thing I would check is the security of the cell cable where it connects to the IntelliCenter on the lower left. Make sure the connector is fully seated and the round knob is tight holding it in place.

The display appears to be backlit with no information showing, not dark as if it was asleep/idle. I suspect something is up with the IntelliCenter.

My first step would be to hold the reset button for 10 seconds and reset the IntelliCenter and see what happens.

Also checking the cell connection, as Allen mentioned.

I also agree with Jim, if the pool is only 9 months old, everything should still be under warranty and I'd be having the pool builder check these things.

Sorry, my picture didn't show my display very well. I was just trying to show my system. I tried to attach another picture showing the display but it said the file was too large. Currently the salt cell is working, but we'll see for how long. It often doesn't have lights on when the pump is running. When I turn off the power to the panel and back on it starts working again. If I press the reset button will that reboot the salt cell? Is it better to press the reset button than turning off the panel power? I've had my pb come out and start it back up, but they didn't say that anything was wrong with it.
