Intellichlor Ic40, breaker tripping, not turning on

No, there are less damaging ways to clean a cell before using an acid solution as a last resort.

Read SWG How It Works - Further Reading

But Pool Services usually begin with the nuclear cleaning way.
Alright,
So, I talked with Pentair about the IC40 failing twice. They said:

"The reason behind the IntelliChlor Cell failing prematurely is due to the installation of the PVC piping feeding into the inlet of the Cell. I have circled it in red for you on the photos for you to see.
On Page 5 of our Installation & Users guide(I have attached that for you as well) the IntelliChlor states "Note: For best flow sensing, provide at least 12"-18" of straight pipe in front of the cell inlet."
Without this 12'-18" of straight pipe feeding into the Cell, extra wear and tear is accumulating due to cavitation inside of the Cell. Instead of having the correct water flow through the Cell, this would cause hot spots within the Cell that will shorten its lifespan.
We need to correct the installation of the plumbing for the Cell, otherwise this will just continue to happen over and over again."

What do you guys think? Are they just trying to evade responsibility, or did my builder screw this up? They have built thousands of pools.

We see plenty of pools that do not have the 12"-18" of straight pipe into the cell and whose cells last longer then yours.

However we recommend installers follow the Manufacturers Installation Manual. And it seems few installers read the manuals and know what is said in them.

419,

To give them some slack, their response 'might' make some sense if you were using a large single speed pump..

But with a VS pump running at a low rpm, I call their answer a load of Bull Feathers..

That said, it is their court and their ball...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Oh boy,
Well, the builder is coming out for a service call later tomorrow. We'll see what they say.
