Intellichlor Collar nut repair

Per an old post, This one does the trick
Note this in the thread…

Update: When I first posted this, I was putting the blank on for the winter. I just tried to install the IntelliChlor Salt Cell this morning and found that you CANNOT fully tighten the nut, as it interferes with the flow switch cover. I was able to sand off enough of the nut to make it work. Not as easy as I thought, but still a lot easier, and cheaper than redoing the piping!

Thanks to all. Yes, I did see the thread quoted but thought there's something else too. Amazon shows "currently unavailable". :brickwall: Have a new union from several cell replacements but didn't want to take that route.

I’ll head out there tomorrow and replace the old couplers with these.

Only. He didn't get out there tomorrow. Or the day after that, nor the day after that....

In fact, it remains on the todo list to this very day.

I’m still working on my installation plan for the split collar nut. After consultation with several NASA engineers and the nerds at Tesla, we still haven’t worked out all the torque specifications. We’re looking to do some custom finite element analysis simulations to determine the best angle for the custom made torque wrench we’re ordering from a well-known craft German tool maker who has been supplying Mercedes-Benz with custom gear going all the way back to pre-WWI. They are an old world family of tool makers that really know their stuff. It is Holiday season in Germany though so getting the union shop guys to put in the hours is difficult. We expect deliver sometime in 1Q25.

The split in the nut has seemed to halt at about 1/3rd the overall circumference. The cold weather may influence that so we have setup a high resolution streak camera with night vision option to take high frame rate video data of the union nut. Right now we have qualified the camera at 520fps but we’d prefer 1024fps for better analysis of wind variables in the video data. We may need to go with a different camera vendor if we can’t get the current one to bump the specs however that would require a complete rework of the QA/QC plan. We have looked into pulsed laser illumination of the target to get fast differential signals but finding a camera that can operate at single wavelength efficiently is not easy. I’ve got some calls in to the guys at the UofA astronomy department to see what they recommend.

It’s been a lot of work this fall and the temperatures have fallen rapidly. Cold weather slows everything down but, hey, that’s life …

I am writing a movie about the incident.

I have Morgan Freeman lined up to be the Narrator.

I have Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio coming in for auditions to play JoyfulNoise.

Jack Black might be a better fit …

Arizona State University (ASU) is a much better choice if you want top notch scientists who know what they are doing.

Only after they’re done with their Beer Pong tournaments. Most ASU grads get a minor in “Aromatherapy Studies” which is quite useful and they can turn that into a job at Bath & Body Works while they wait for access to open up to their trust funds …

Update
Got my Amazon delivery today but it won't fit contrary to the Amazon description. The pipe I'd that goes through the collar is 2.678" (inches) wide. The original new pentair collar that I have is 2.770" where as the split collar is only 2.300", that's almost half inch smaller. I'll just get to my lathe on Monday and customize 2 of them so I'll have a spare. While I'm at the lathe I'll also shorten the collar going by the internal depth to match the original. I did test the split collar for thread fitment and that's perfect.
