IntelliCenter2 Migration to Pentair Home

I attempted to migrate either late last year or early this year, but ran into issues with it not accepting my email. I called and opened a ticket, but the issue still hasn’t been fixed.

The issue appears to be that they do some type of form validation on email input to only accept certain TLDs such as .com or .net. That’s troublesome for me because my email ends in .guru. So my options are only use it locally, use the web version which is terrible on a mobile device, or create a new email.

I plan to just wait till they fix it.

Based on this thread I did not migrate to Pentair Home. The messages advising me to do so are getting more persistent.

Have they gotten the bugs worked out?

The firmware has been updated since June, 2023, so suffice to say, it's relatively stable. It fixed the major bug that had major impact which was when you'd lose power or reboot, freeze protection settings were reset.

My only issue with the current version is that when I reboot, my time resets to Midnight, January 1, 1970. Despite using Internet time (NTP), it doesn't seem to stick. So I have to manually set it, or toggle Internet time on or off.

Update here, they fixed the email TLD issue.

What is the current consensus on this? I'm getting the annoying popup asking to migrate every time I open the IntelliCenter2 app on my phone. I wish I could just mute the popup message for a while. I don't feel that there is any need to migrate but I assume that since they are asking every time I open the app that they will eventually force people to make the move.

I've been running it. To me it looks visually better, but it still times out a lot. I'd say it's better, but not by very much. Won't hurt though. I have noticed my Apple Watch Pentair Home app stopped working, but I'm using HomeBridge automation which works a lot better than these Pentair apps.

Thanks for the fast reply! What does the migration process look like? Are there any risks of attempting the migration and ending up with a non-functional app? That's probably my biggest concern here. I also don't like making changes to something that already works fine. I mean IntelliCenter2 isn't the most modern looking app, but I'll take function over form for any of these apps.

Oh, and your comment about time resetting on reboot. Rebooting what exactly?

I was one of the first to move. It seemed to go well. I doubt you'll have issues.

On the time, if the IntelliCenter loses power or I reboot it, the time resets to Jan 1, 1970 and has to be manually readjusted.

Yes, but for some reason it doesn't run after boot up. Typically what I do is just toggle it back and forth after restart and then it picks up the time.

What version IntelliCenter are you running?

Mine works with 2.017.

That's what I'm running. I think it may be due to the fact that when a reboot occurs, it reboots my Wi-Fi gateway (Engenius), and that takes a while to boot, associate, etc. It seems almost as if IntelliCenter is trying to run the time update right away and maybe the network connection isn't established yet.

That could be. I replaced my Engenius with the 900MHZ Wireless Link for a more reliable connection.

My friend just got a new pool with a brand new Intellicenter. He has a Pentair branded gateway, so it seems Pentair moved away from the Engenius setup.

A new “High Power Wireless Link Kit,” has replaced the EnGenius WiFi Link Kit (Primary Client Bridge) (P/N 522475Z). These new link kits (523557) began shipping with newer IntelliCenter bundled kits, January 30, 2021.The new kits have two (2) transceivers. One transceiver connects to the user’s router and the other connects to the IntelliCenter. The following is reported:
  • Connection range is significantly better.
  • Establishes a proprietary secure bridge between the two transceivers which automatically negotiates the connection.
  • Allows for auto configuration and formatting (plug and play).

Care to share how you run Pentair through HomeBridge? I'm in process of moving from VeraPlus to HomeAssistant or other so this would be helpful!

Do you have a HomeBridge hub now? If not, I recommend buying a HOOBS. It’s a dedicated piece of hardware that has hombridge already installed. You add devices using plugins. It’s very user friendly, but you at least need to be comfortable with tech.

It’s great though. I can even ask Siri to do certain things.

One more question before I pull the trigger. I already have an account created for the Home app and it’s connected to my IntelliFlo pump over wifi. I did this when the equipment was first installed so I could control the pump speed until they had the IntelliCenter powered on and configured. Since the IntelliCenter was installed, I haven’t used the Home app since it’s all controlled from the IntelliCenter app now. When I go to migrate over to Home, is it going to cause issues by already having a profile setup under the Home app and having my pump connected there too? Should I delete my Home profile so it is created new when I migrate?
