After almost two years, Pentair has published new IntelliCenter firmware. The previous 2.xxx firmware had so many problems that Pentair withdrew it from their website. Hopefully they've fixed problems and added capabilities without introducing additional new problems. :)

Thanks @SA Pentair User for the heads up.

Post your experiences here to help others decide if they want to try the new firmware.

@SA Pentair User says he already tried it on his complex pool and is rolling back/

Yip. I rolled back. First time ever that I have rolled back a Pentair release but I simply could not find work arounds for the bugs that I encountered. I do think the bugs I saw relate to having lots of panels (3) and / or lots of IntelliBrite lights (19 - admittedly, a few are paired together).

If tomorrow is a rainy day, I just might change all of my IntelliBrites to generic lights in the Pentair setup with on / off functionality only and roll forward again to see if that works on 2.026. If that works, I could then move colour control away from Pentair and use Control4 to control the colour. A complex solution to the current problem as I would need to program the IntelliBrite logic into control4 which may be quite time consuming!

The disappointing thing being that I would los Pentair colour swim functionality although in reality I have not had this since 1.064… so maybe a roll (further) back is the solution…

Do you have to change all 19 lights to Generic, or can you test changing a few in one of the expansion panels to GENERIC and see if they turn ON and OFF properly?

I know nothing about the Color4 and the difficulty in making them change the light colors.

Thanks! Good suggestion. I have the bad habit of jumping in on an all or nothing basis. Testing one light is a great idea!

I would test it incrementally.

Start with one light as Generic and see what it takes to get Control4 to change the colors.

If you get things working, then add lights one at a time to the Generic light group and see if things work.

I don't know how easy it is in Control4 to get color changing on different lights light circuits once you have it working on one. I would like to think they have a copy function to move the programming from one circuit to another.

Thanks again! I have one light working and changing colours based on Control4 programming. It seems rock solid (admittedly on 2.017).

I think I will move all my pool lights to generic light circuits this evening and test when it’s is dark (and easy to see lights that are out of sync). For test purposes, the Control4 code will now be very easy. Copy and paste and change 3 lines from a single light command to a group command. For later flexibility or if using group commands proves problematic on the move to 2.026 it will be a bit more work but I have done the heavy lifting already.

For those interested in my saga and those with lots of IntelliBrites across multiple panels…

With my own coding (outside of Pentair - in Control4), I was able to emulate the problems that 2.017 had natively in my situation (or rather, I hit the same issues as I did the development). Essentially the problem arose for large groups across multiple panels and, to a lesser extent on small groups if they were only on the third panel (which in my case also has a relatively long connecting wire - although 2.xxx was meant to deal with issues relating to longer runs between panels. In reality, it made it worse for IntelliBrites).

Fortunately, I was also able to fix all of these problems by increasing the delay between commands sent to the lights and I now have what appears to be a robust set of light controls for the first time in 2 years.

Next step is to upgrade to 2.026 again and see what happens… that is tomorrow’s job. Assuming I have time!

I wondered if the problem was a timing problem with the large group of lights and how the IntelliCenter handles the simultaneous cycling of all the light relays in the group. I also wondered if the IntelliCenter is hitting its maximum CPU capacity and is underpowered for what you are asking it to do.

Hi All,

I upgraded from 2.017 to 2.026 yesterday. Here my findings:
  • OCP did not offer the upgrade over the air (nor was the upgrade offered by the app), so performed the upgrade via USB.
  • Schedules, circuit freeze designations and notification settings were not lost and remained the same. Actually, all settings (incl. pump circuit settings) remained the same.
  • Clock source did not revert back to manual after upgrade
  • Freeze protection kicked in last night and operated fine
  • Lights (IntelliBrites, GloBrites, MagicStreams) all work OK. They still have their respective circuit types.
  • Spa heating with MasterTemp bypass / cool down works
  • I could not test/check IntelliChem or IntelliChlor as they are either off/winterized at this time.
I was making numerous changes from the Pentair Pool App and found the app was not as responsive as previously. It sometimes lost connection, which required an app restart.

Tony

Phased roll-out I guess?

We have not heard of anyone getting prompted to update to 2.026 or doing an OTA update of it. It may not be up on the Pentair OTA server yet.

Pentair may have put it on the website for brave dealers to try. There has been no general announcement of its availability to the public.

Given the prior IntelliCenter release problems I can understand the general availability being done very slowly.

So… as per my earlier posts, I have sorted out my IntelliBrite problems (that arose from 2.006 onwards) by changing them to regular lights and controlling the colours from outside of Pentair.

I then updated from 2.017 to 2.026 and it again didn’t work 😢 and caused chaos. I spent some time investigating what was happening and basically the 5 Auxillary circuits in Expansion panel 2 were controlling the expansion panels circuits AND 5 of the Auxillary circuits on the main panel. I tried numerous reboots to fix this. I also tried changing the five Auxillary circuits from basic lighting circuits to generic feature circuits but nothing I did solved the problem 😢😢😢

My current conclusion is that Pentair did not test the update on more than one expansion panel. I can report that it works very well if I turn off the second expansion panel and most bugs from 2.017 appear to have been fixed. Pity that this new bug has appeared and makes it unusable for me 😢 I have rolled back to 2.017 again! I am contemplating removing the lighting control from Pentair totally (and buying the equivalent of extra controllers for Control4 to cover all of my lights. Then Pentair would simply control 10 pumps and a few Auxillary circuits (3 or 4 at a guess) and I could probably turf both of my expansion panels. An expensive exercise but this would make my Pentair setup much simpler.

Anyone else with 2.026 experience?
I just received my Intellicenter which is on 1.064. Would you recommend to go to 2.026?
I recommend anyone with a new IntelliCenter load 2.026 after powering it up, and before doing any setup.

People had problems going from 1.064 to 2.XXX because 2.XXX is a new architecture and existing setup did not convert cleanly. Starting with 2.026 with no prior programming should go smoother.

2.026 is the future, has less bugs, enhanced features, and should be fine for most systems.

Figured i would throw another success post in here. I installed 2.026 last night and thus far all is right and well. The only issue i ran into was I had forgotten how picky the ic was regarding usb drives. It was the third one I tried that finally played nice nice, an old cheapy 4gb that I had lying around with cruise photos 🤦🏾‍♂️.
For reference we are running an i10ps with valve expansion card , rs485 expansion and all relays in use.
