Installation question re: waterfall sheer

Hi - I am going to install the waterfall sheer. Wall is ready and notching the stones where the sheer will sit.

During this time, I wondered about 2 things...
1. Should I set the sheer on the stones with mortar? I was thinking of using PL Construction glue.
2. The sheer came with a rock trap. Looks like a T and the bottom part is where the rock collects (I guess). Is this needed?

Yes, you should install the rock trap. If you get any debris in the sheer it may be difficult to impossible to clean it out.
