I began researching robots, but there are so many options that I'm unsure which one to buy. They're all quite expensive. Alternatively, should I just purchase another inground suction cleaner?
If you want a recommendation on a robot, call Margaret at Marina Pool and Spa in Lakewood CO.
Might be best to email them as they are usually quite busy. If you don't get a reply within 3-4 days, try again. CONTACT US: [email protected] 303-985-0077
Members here have indicated that Marina will provide a solid recommendation and a good price. Since they are a brick and mortar store, the full warranty will be in affect as well.
Indications are that they will recommend what they believe will work well for you without trying to upsell you to a more expensive model.

The Rebel was/is Pentair's version of The Pool Cleaner (Poolvergnuegen was another name). After the patent ran out they started selling those improved versions. Hayward bought the original and re-named it the Aquanaut, but also continued using the original name on some units. Great cleaner, especially with the improvements made by Pentair, in my opinion.
