I believe 12-15k. Last year I used 15k but my friends say it's more like 12k so I'm using that now.
That is a ton of chlorine you are using - somethign is up I think. Interested in seeing the results of the OCLT.

Just read this whole thread! You’ve come along way! It’s easy to think that you can back off of slam because it looks clear but that will cost u in the end.

This test is intended to determine if your pool has a contaminant such as algae that is consuming chlorine. The test is performed by testing FC in the evening after sunset and again in the morning before sunrise. The readings will be the same if there is nothing in your water consuming chlorine.
(ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less); - And the water is clear.

What's the width amd length of the pool and how deep? I asked because that's extreme FC usage even for current weather. You have something brewing. Jump back to slam levels before you end up with cloudy water in the next days
I was going to do the overnight test and tonight but a big thunderstorm hit and now there are leaves and frogs. I'm just going to start a slam in the morning. We went through a gallon of 12.5 today
Checked on the pool this morning. A couple things to note:
1. The water has never been so clear.
2. Cya was at 20 when I tested this morning. I could still sort of see the black dot at 20.
3. Fc was at 4ppm, I left it around 6ppm last night after the storm, maybe 10 hours before.
So I put in enough shock to take it to 15. When my kid gets up I'll have him:
1. Clean the storm leaves from last night
2. Add 1 pound of cya to bring it to 30
3. Start monitoring and keep fc above 12.

So at 8am I brought it up to 15 fc.
At 10:30 we did this:
1. Cleaned out leaves from storm
2. Cleaned filter
3. Vac bottom
4. Added 1 pound of cya to sock
5. Cleaned filter again. Pressure at 15
6. Tested fc and it was at 6.5. That is 8.5 loss in 3 hours but water is crystal clear.

I just checked it and it was at 10fc. So it lost 5fc in 1 hour.
I added 8 cups to bring it back up to 15. I don't have enough reagent to check it every hour, I ordered more yesterday but it wont be here till tomorrow or monday.

Hopefully it will start holding better soon - is all your cya in the sock dissolved? If not go squish it ! U don’t wanna lose so much to the sun 
7.5fc That's a loss of 8fc in two hours. Not sure what the heck is going on here. I'm starting to freak out a little but the water looks drinkable.

I get it from the pool store, they sell out every week due to pressure washer people so its always new stock. The date code is 2020 173 days. My kid has been leaving the testing reagents outside in the heat, maybe my test is bad? Also, I noticed my 'chlorine only' cylinder is turning brown, and the blue scope for the powder is turning black. Is that normal?

You can clean the cylinder. Just rinse it well afterward. The same with the little spoon. Keep the reagents out of the sun, they will last longer. How old are they?
The cylinder and spoon are around 2 years old and the reagents are maybe 3-4 weeks old.
The reagents are probably fine. You need to clean the other two. I used a little bleach in water and a lot of elbow grease to clean my cylinder. Works for the spoon as well. I let them soak in water first before I try cleaning with bleach. You want to rinse well so you don't throw your testing off if you use bleach to clean them. I go through a FAS test kit every year or every other year so I keep the extra cylinders.
Not sure if this is too soon, but 30 mins after adding enough to take it to 15, its testing at 10.5

Try again in a few. That doesn't sound right. I don't think you can burn through that much chlorine in 30 minutes. Rethink how much you added and how many gallons you have to work with. Other than testing error it sounds like you have the wrong pool size. How much / what did you add?
I've used almost 4 gallons today. Before today the numbers seemed right. I did bump my pool size in the math from 15k to 12k because my buddy measured it and said he thought it was more like 12k, but its an odd change and hard to measure.
