So I took apart my firepit for its annual cleaning. Also cleaned the glass rocks. I figured this would be a good time to put in an ignitor instead of constantly using one of those bic fireplace lighters.

What I really want to do is put a remote control valve and ignitor so that I can just push a button and voila have a fire but those seem a little expensive at about $1000.

So I guess for now just a cheap ignitor that I can replace as the Florida weather will destroy it eventually. So does anyone have any experience with any of these? Use the battery powered ones or a piezo?

I would go with the battery. The have continuous spark while piezo are single shot per push. Seems more grills are moving in that direction. I think. They are a bit more reliable.

Thanks, I found one on Amazon for $12 and it works great. When I change it out next year I will make sure I buy one with two ignitors so I can hit two sides of the pit at the same time.

Now I just need to solve the problem of a remote controlled valve and ignitor at a reasonable price.

Just bought this $13 igniter off amazon for my outdoor griddle. Installed it yesterday. Seems to be working.

That looks exactly like the one I bought. It is working great.

Now the real next project is to fully automate it. Has anyone added a remote valve/actuator and remote ignitor to their fire pits. Some google searches bring up a lot of options but not really sure where to start.

Automation grill or fire pit starter? Nahhh... I rather push a button to ignite it.

Well I have automation on just about everything else in the house and am about one solid days work to finish my pool controller. This is the last item I would have to do. It’s not a huge pain to turn the valve and push the button.

However, it would be nice to be able to go outside and say “Alexa turn on the fire”
