IC40 SWCG - the lights won't turn on

I have a IC40 SWCG, and all of sudden last week realized the lights weren't turning on. Need some advise on what could be the problem, or do I need to replace it outright. I was thinking there might be a fuse, but I can't figure it out... I got some photos of the power generator and what it looks like on the inside when the power is turned on.

What next steps should I take? Worst case I call the pool guy.

Right now have put in liquid chlorine and have the chlorine tabs ducky's floating around.

Tsar,

My gut says that cell is older than dirt and it went bad and popped the fuse..

You have an in-line fuse holder behind where the cell plugs in.. There should be a cap on the bottom of the box..

Disconnect the cell and replace the fuse.. The little green light on the surge card should come on..

Turn it all off and connect the cell and then power it back up.

If the fuse blows again, then the cell is bad..

How old is the cell? Most last 5 to 7 years.

Thanks,

Jim R.

@Jimrahbe - thanks for the response. Don't know how old the cell is - inherited it from the previous owner. How can I check?

I took out the fuse, it is indeed blown. Where do I buy this fuse, what's the correct replacement. Says 10A 250V on the fuse, but I saw somewhere else it's supposed to be 1.25 A, so just confirming.

Tsar,

The Mfg. date is on the S/N tag on the bottom side of the cell.. Take a pic with your phone...

If you want the fuse to pop every time you turn on the power center, then use the 1.25 A fuse... :poke:

10 amp is correct size..

Thanks,

Jim R.

T,

Sorry, cleaning the cell will not make the lights work... But... Try it, it can't make is any worse..

While I think the cell is bad, as Wireform points out, it could be a bad cable or connection.. It can't hurt to inspect the cable and make sure nothing chewed it.. and all the contacts look good.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I’m guessing the cell is aged somewhere between 2017 and 2019. The picture shows ideal salt of 3400 on the cell. The newer cells state ideal as 3600. I know my 2017 vintage cell says 3400 - I’m hedging a guess it changed sometime after 2019, but I can’t recall.

It has the old style output lights without the 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10%, which makes it pretty old.

My guess is between 2012 and 2016.

I do not know exactly when they added the lower percentages, but the manual from 2012 shows only the higher percent.

There’s also no check salt light, which I believe was eliminated in the version 3 and above units. So it’s definitely a version 3 or higher….I’m still hedging around 2017 😂. We need serial number and date pictures! Lol

Your signature showed you had an IC20, which is too small.
The IC40 would be the correct size.

Replacing it is unscrewing two unions, and screwing on the new cell. The cable is unplugged and the new one plugged in. Turn off the power to the SWCG power center when doing the work.
