IC40 Question

Installed an IC40 3/2024. New, the chlorine output at 70% was TOO HIGH. Point is, it worked great for a long time. Now, 14 months later, I am barely able to maintain 0.5 PPM @ 100% setting. I have cleaned it, but made no difference. There was very little scale build up. According to the device diagnostics it is working properly.
The pool condition at present is excellent, blue, clear water, 76 F not that hard to maintain. It appears the device is barely producing chlorine.

I can not get Pentair to answer the phone so no help there.

Anybody have a suggestion on how to diagnose this? BTW, the diagnostics check indicates 20% use for the IC40.

I doubt anything is wrong with the cell.. If the cell light is on, the cell is making chlorine.. It either makes chlorine or it does not.. It does not make a 'little' chlorine.

With the cell set to 50% output, the cell light should be on for 2.5 minutes and then off for 2.5 minutes.. If your cell light does that, then something is consuming the chlorine that your cell is making..

Sun will quickly consume the chlorine unless you have a CYA level of 50 to 70 ppm..

Unless your CYA is close to zero, then I would suspect that you have algae, even if your pool water is clear...

Since there is no sunlight at night, we have an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test (OCLT), that is run at night.. If your FC (Chorine) level changes at night, then you have algae.

If you have algae, then you will need to do a SLAM.

Can you post a complete set of test results from your own test kit?

Here ya go. Checking out Leslie's recommendations. Looks like Alkalinity Upper first on list... can run that night test soon.

Pool Chem 5/20/2025 ic40 indicating 3950ppm.

You need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF-100/Pro or Taylor K2006C. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

Once you get your test kit, please post up a complete set of test results.
