I think my pump is garbage

My husband and I bought a house that came with our pool and equipment. We have been struggling for over a month now to clear up the cloudiness with the SLAM process and Taylor k-2006 kit. We bought a new hayward cartridge but it didn't improve anything. The pump will randomly shut off at times with the outlet getting tripped. We are using an extension cord to the outlet to power it. It's happened at least 5 times by now. It also occasionally after running maybe 4hrs on high, will make a horrible noise and we have to go run and shut it off. That's happened twice now. We've cleaned out the impellers and baskets and bought new clamps for the hoses. I can't tell how old this system is if it's just that old that it's time to get a new one or if we are doing something wrong. The only paperwork we have for the equipment are the manuals.

Do you run the pump on high or low, or both? Do both settings work?

I'm actually not sure if you're supposed to have it hard wired and not use an extension cord? I don't know if that could trip your outlet but it could be an issue somehow?

Your pump can draw 15 amps. Is the circuit it is attached to have a 20 amp circuit breaker?

Is the outlet the pump is plugged into GFCI?

Use of extension cords is not permitted by the National Electrical Code. If the extension cord is not a heavy duty 20 amp cord it may be undersized for your pump. In addition depending on the length of the cord it may result in low voltage at the pump.

Use of the extension cord may be causing GFCI trips.

Your pump is probably fine but it's electrical connection is garbage.

We want to hardwire it in once we get a deck built but there is no way for the pump to have been installed by previous owners without an extension cord. It might have lowered its life, I suppose. We have kept it on low 24/7 to try and clear the pool up and have ran it on high a few times, mainly when vacuuming or brushing. Today it ran on high for maybe 3 hours without any issues. I'm just stumped.

A heavy duty 12/3 extension cord in the shortest length needed to reach your outlet should be enough to temporarily run your pump until you can get it hard wired.

If you need to go longer than 25 feet, I would probably go with a 10/3 extension cord.

What kind of horrible noise does the pump make?

I wouldn't expect an extension cord to cause a horrible noise regardless. That sounds like a bearing issue.
