I’m gonna bump this up once again as again this year we’re looking at tinkering with some things over the Winter. We at TFP would like to ask users to again share some of their photos with us in hopes we can use them around the website. Regardless if it’s a photo of your pool, a closeup of a pile of DE, a shot of your equipment pad, your Salt water cell........whatever you got, there’s a chance we’ll be able to use it!
Allow me to further describe why we’re begging here,
We currently have around 200 pages maintained almost solely by TFP consisting of the Wiki, Pool School, Homepage, YouTube channel front-page, and so on. Finding photos is a HUGE part of making these look good, and it’s one we can improve upon. Currently many of these could use some “love” in the visual appearance category, and we’re looking to do that. As of right now we’ll likely turn to stock photo sites for those visuals, and that’s a bad idea......but one we’ll do if necessary.
This is a bad idea for two reasons. First, it’s costly. Looking at two big sites, Shutterstock and iStock show prices in the $10 to $15 range. That can add up VERY quick. Now granted you do get a discount if you subscribe to monthly plans, but it’s still WAY more expensive than using amazing photos from our members. Now in full disclosure I’ll also admit there are free stock photo sites and we’ve used those too, but now we hit issue #2. Because these sites are popular and easy to use, everybody uses them. How often have you seen a photo on one website and immediately recognize it from another website? While this isn’t the end of the world, it’s not the cleanest either. I want to make TFP stand out, and it’s hard to do when you look like everybody else.
So I beg, please oh please oh please start snapping some photos. ANYTHING may find a spot somewhere. Who knows, maybe even
@kimkats will give you one of her gold stars.
