Hey guys! New here, just thought I would share a recent win when it comes to balancing.

Last night I added CYA via the sock method. Today I finally maintained chlorine at the days end! However, my alkalinity was a bit high. According to the TFP app, I needed to lower ph and aerate. Luckily the CYA (I think?) already had my ph in that range. I wasn’t sure how to introduce air to get TA under control.

I took a zip lock bag and placed within it a balloon weight and a crane hook we happen to have (the balloon weight alone wasn’t heavy enough to keep still.) I tied string to the balloon weight and attached the other ends to the bottom of a solar fountain that I use for garden decor. (Cleaned it thoroughly first). I then vacuum sealed the bag all the way across to where the strings came out. I used my pool water just like I do when I cook things sous vide (obviously I don’t do that with my pool water). I placed that in the sun and let it go to town.

I felt it wouldn’t be enough, so I grabbed an old air pump I had for an aquarium and some cheesecloth. I tied the cloth in a bunch of knots around the end of the air tube and zip tied it tight. To weight it down I then tied a string to a heavy pvc adapter I had purchased for our filter but didn’t end up using. (Duct taped around it just to be safe, some edges were a little jagged.) I let that sink down right in front of my filter return and plugged it in. Bubbles!

I’ve been running the aeration for a few hours. Just tested my TA and it’s in my target range! I likely won’t keep this set up forever, I plan to eventually build a deck around the pool and incorporate a waterfall of sorts. But for right now it’s working, so I wanted to share in case it can help someone else.
