I can’t do Leslie’s water testing anymore

We were told when we built that because of all the rock we have, sandstone coping, sandstone beach entry, rock water wall, that a saltwater system would be a negative for us. Thoughts?

Multiple builders told us this as we bid out. Explanation always tied to salt would get into the rock, expand and contract with our heat and freezes, and crack the rock. We would either be replacing rock often or we’d have no warranty in place for any of our rock features. Obviously, at 10 years old, warranty is now a moot point. And we have salt anyway, as you pointed out....the 2 go hand in hand. Salt loves chlorine. Chlorine loves salt.

All of those items you mentioned from PB's about salt are generally false. The most destructive thing to pool surfaces is out of range pH. Pool owners that do not test their own water and use a SWCG can get very high pH.

Bad pH management is by far more damaging than the level of salt you need to a SWG to run. As Marty pointed out a SWG drives pH well into the 8's if not monitored correctly you being a chemist would understand just how big a jump that is.

There are far too many people here on this forum that have all the stone work that you have that are running beautifully clear saltwater pools with zero issues for many years to blame SWG's for the issues PB's blame them for.


The SWG has been the scapegoat of PB's for years simply because the chemistry of how they work is misunderstood and they are poorly marketed. There is virtually no difference between a "chlorine pool" and a "salt water pool". Both pools use all the same chemicals and are sanitized with chlorine. The only difference is how the chlorine is added to the pool.

On an economics level, SWG cost a lot more up front than buying chlorine every month. At the end of the day basically what you are doing is paying for all the liquid chlorine you would by for 5-10 years all up front in a one time payment.

All Im going to say, is that I'm pretty sure that after you get your pool in TFP order, you are going to notice a big difference in the quality of the water you used to have, vs. what you are about to start experiencing.

You would be so much happier with a SWG than lugging cases and cases of Liquid Chlorine to your pool for years to come.

Over the life of the the SGW cell they are really no more expensive than the Liquid Chlorine method and soooooo much easier!

Indeed splashpad, like GB on our cell data plan, the wife agreed to let maintenance budget savings rollover for new pool toys, I mean pool maintenance improvements.
