I can’t afford my pool..or can I?

I can't help you with the Lamotte CYA test and can't comment on how well it works.

I guess I shouldn't have cheaped out. My LaMotte works similar to this one:

The problem is my liquid doesn't turn murky and I can always see a black dot. I'll have to pick up a secondary kit to test my CYA.

I placed your pool info in your signature. Please update it as you get better information - signature

Thank you, turns out I was wrong on a couple of things. Snapped a bunch of pictures this morning and updated it. I didn't have time to test the water again this AM, but woke up pleasantly surprised. Granted I haven't SLAMed it, and my balance still needs work. But it's amazing how little the pool actually needed to get to this point.

The smaller port on top of your Fusion2 holds a Mineral Pack. Was it installed? If it was, we recommend removing it.

You are making progress. Keep adding 3PPM of CL daily according to PoolMath and keep testing your FC.

Adding CL daily until it is warm enough to get your SWG going is important.

I opened both ports. This one was empty:

The one next to it with a plug looks like a cage/filter.

How does your FC hold, if you have low cya your FC will go fast on a sunny day.

FC seems to be fine, but right now I have a solar cover over it. Temp went up by 3 degrees today, sitting at a toasty 58 degrees.

I overshot and am sitting at the following:

FC=7
CC=0 (is this a concern?)
pH = 6.8-7.0
ta= 110-120
CH= 380-400
CYA= still nothing.

Should I let it drift back down to 3-5? Or should I bump it up to 10 to shock and slam?

Also, any recommendations on the step? I can’t seem to get rid of the staining. The pool company left a pump on the step underneath the cover all winter.

CC of 0 is good!

Don't get your FC above 10 until we get your pH up a bit.

When was the last time you added MA? Do you have any water features to aerate your pool to get the pH up to 7.2?

I actually just brought it down. It was sitting at 8.2 just yesterday. Calculator called for 2 gallons of muriatic to get to a 7.2. I added a gallon last night, and just another one about an hour before I tested the water. The one last night was a 15.7%-10 Baume, the one today; I didn't realize was much higher at a 34.6% -22 Baume. I have baking soda, but I figured I'd test again to see if it's still low before I add it in.

Don’t add baking soda. I’d try to aerate first to raise the pH. Soda ash/washing soda is the correct chemical to raise pH by the way.

The pH went up naturally. Its sitting at 7.2 steady now for two days now. The rest of the reading seems steady too, with the exception of FC. It’s been climbing the last two days and I’m now at 11 FC. I added LC yesterday, but didn’t today when I realized it was still climbing.

The pool looks phenomenal right now. Small specs at the bottom but clear throughout. Neighbor swung by to ask who I use for opening and after a quick convo and showing him the pool, he asked me to show him what I did so he can do it himself from now on.

I really can’t say thank you enough to everyone who helped in the thread!
