Good morning - we have opened our pool after being covered since Oct last year. Nothing was done for those 5-6months.

5+ yr old - 36,000 gallon - in ground concrete pool - marcite finish.

Pulling cover off days ago and found water crystal clear with complete vibrant green :) algae covering bottom of pool and walls.

Scrub - vacuum - repeat and repeat - have added 28gallons of LC per local pool supply over two days. Green is gone but water is very cloudy blue now. Can’t see bottom.

Water test this morning gave these numbers

TC 9ppm - FC 9ppm - PH 6 drops - Base demand 0 - TA 125ppm - Calcium Hardness 150ppm - Stabilizer 300 ppm - Total solids 1000ppm.

75 degree water temp.

Pool supply now calls for 4 qts of Metal Control - 1 gallon Muratic - 20lbs Hardness increased - 1.5qts of Clarifier.

Sounded more about $$ than helping me clear up quickly. 5+ tread I’ve never put that much into it …but have never let it get that bad either.

Just looking for advice.

Welcome to TFP! :wave: For sure, stay away from the pool store and local free testing. Test your own water with a TF-100/Pro Series test kit or Taylor K-2006C kit. That's a must and will save you LOTS of headache down the road. If your CYA is really high, that's task #1 by exchanging some water. I'll post some links to help get you started.

^^^Where did these number come from?
How are you testing your water
How did you test CYA at 300? Can you explain your procedure?
With a CYA off 300, you will not be able to follow the SLAM process. Just not possible.
AND you won't add enough chlorine, no matter how much you add to kill the algae.
If your CYA is 300, you need to replace 85% of your water.
Let's get an accurate CYA before we do that, but...

Thank you everyone - seems overwhelming with a lot of contradictory explanations….lol

I took a water sample about 18-20” deep from the pool to the store who tested and provided the numbers above.

I don’t have any testing equipment/kit yet and need to do that along with a lot of reading - thank you.

Water is a crystal blue cloudy. No signs of any green or algae.
