Hurry up and wait! (Katy, TX)

6 AM work starts.....BRING IT!!

Sweet revenge will be as they longingly look through the fence slats at me relaxing on a pool float with a bloody mary in one hand and margarita in the other. Maybe put Mr. Buffet on blast too for funzies.

Maybe put Mr. Buffet on blast too for funzies.
If you don’t already know it, The Zac Brown band wrote a Jimmy buffet song for themselves and had him sing verse 2. ‘Knee deep’ It will be a fitting tune as you ‘keep up foreign relations’ with the neighbor.

ermagerd it finally happened. I daren't even post about it for fear of jinxing it!

04-Oct pool was staked out. The builder mis-measured the easement when doing the initial drawings so we lost 11" on the width of the pool (grr). We agreed to extend the length of the pool by 1 ft as the consolation prize (fine).

05-Oct (today) both the dig and rebar happened. The rebar was initially planned for tomorrow but there was enough time in the day that they wanted to knock it out today. Fine by me. They wrapped things up around 7 PM. The excitement for today was that our gas line got nicked and had to get Centerpoint out to fix it. That was followed by a lot of bickering between the PB and Centerpoint (who didn't mark the line as they should have from the 811 request) about whose fault it was and what the final fix was going to be. All ended well and the 15 Centerpoint trucks were called off back to the hive.

06-Oct plumbing (tomorrow)

07-Oct gunite (Thursday)

So far everything seems to have gone well. Based on all the wisdom gathered from reading this site for a while it seems everything so far is being done "right"; at least as far as my un-trained eye can see. The PB was here most of the day monitoring the crews and responded quickly to my texts when he wasn't here. Feeling good about the coming days. But we shall see. Every day is an adventure.

I realize this post is worthless without pics, but I'm exhausted! At this point will probably just do a picture post once the gunite is completed on Thursday.

Time for a drink....

Great work on overall update. Lots happening in a short time period.
06-Oct plumbing (tomorrow)
When they do the plumbing, good time to take a lot of pictures of what pipe is through the rebar, what is connected to the skimmer, where is the main drain lines laid, what & how the pipe is positioned is in the trench, etc. They should lay the conduit for the lighting as well. Also, look at where it ends up at the pad and ensure things can be spaced out properly. Just lots of little things, but once they cover it (with dirt or gunite) it is hidden forever.

+1. Pics are free and they’ll be stored in the cloud forever, so take 1000. 9 years from know when you wonder if rebar is poking through in a spot, or want to plant some bushes kinda sorta where the electric might be……. You’ll know.

Great point about documenting the stuff that'll soon get buried. I can confirm that, yes, I am indeed taking entirely too many pictures for posterity. They'll be a part of the slide show at my funeral when I'm 110.

06-Oct They just did the stub out plumbing today. There is an unexpected set of drain fixtures on one of the walls - waiting on response from PB on what that is about. Rebar dude came back and added some rebar to support the lights, I guess they forgot them yesterday.

07-Oct Gunite crew is supposed to be here 7 AM tomorrow.

---------------
I keep getting errors when uploading the files, so I'll need to troubleshoot that before I can post the goods.

Wow great project you got there and reasonably priced for what it is. I am doing a renovation project and cost are growing fast and very close to a new pool cost. Of course they have to remove things 800 sq ft of concrete, old pool stuff and they have to be careful no to break anything. On my side I did not went with an integrated spa, it would have been doable but cost is high and extra care and insulation is required since I am in Canada with many months of freezing. Integrated spa of course look much nicer and help house value so good choice since it is making sense where you live.

I will be following your build!

I just put my pool in this summer and opted for the spa and it was the best decision we made. I'm in east Texas, Longview, and we're already getting cool evenings in the 60's so it's perfect after work. Plus it makes the beverages taste better sitting on my patio looking at it. I'm 16'x32' and the decking was a big add, I don't have the dimensions but the odd shaped yard required us to be creative, all in was just over $70K. The raised sheer decent wall added cost, spa was $10.5K and I dont regret it at all. Not to add stress though, a post completion cost that has added up fast is landscaping. The yard was destroyed from a lawn perspective. I'm probably 3K in so far in sod and crushed stone etc. and I still haven't gotten around to addressing the irrigation system that got nuked in the process

Thursday Update time!

07-Oct The gunite trucks showed up bright and early at 6:30 AM. They got set up, tarped off the backyard and blocked our view for the day so we weren't really able to really watch what they were doing. We did take some sneak peaks as we could, but golly the gunite is a lot dustier than expected. I didn't want to stay out there for long. They wrapped everything up around 4 PM. The backyard is trashed :ROFLMAO:, the clean up crew comes tomorrow to tidy up a bit. The only weirdness we saw during our walk-around after they were done is the way they handled the downspout that is located where the equipment pad was placed. Picture coming in the picture post. I've asked the PB to remove the bottom bendy piece, and fill in the divot. We can deal with a downspout detour later. I am looking forward to becoming one with the pool, will start my week of zen tomorrow morning. The equipment order was placed today as well.

08-Oct Along with general clean-up, tomorrow will also bring the electric and long plumbing.

13-Oct Scheduled to do the materials selection. PB says tile and coping will come the following week.

I feel like we are flying through the build. I guess we will see what is next after tile and coping but at this pace we may be able to swim before turkey day. Not complaining!

Pictures are next I promise!

06-Oct Stub-out plumbing. A relatively calm and serene day.

The drains on the wall here stumped me; but I have since learned that they are for the sheer descent water feature suction. Cool!
