How to lower combined clorine level?

I’m betting there was a lot more earlier! So it looks like you are getting closer!

Water is and has been very clear for days now.

Yesterday we added 8 lbs of Borax (to raise PH) and 8 lbs of baking soda (to raise TA). We also added another 4 gallons of 12.5% liquid chlorine.

This morning the numbers on our TF-100 kit are reading:
2.5 FC
7.5 CC
120 TA
6.9 PH

We added another 2 gallons of 12.5% liquid chlorine this morning, and tested 15 minutes after adding, numbers are:
2.0 FC
10.0 CC
6.9 PH

Should we add more Borax to raise the PH more? It seems like our TA went up quite a bit by adding the baking soda and Borax yesterday.

When adding 12.5% sodium hypochlorite (liquid chlorine) to a pool to oxidize ammonia, every gallon of liquid chlorine will create the equivalent of 14 ounces of 31.45% hydrochloric acid.

10 gallons of 12.5% liquid chlorine added to 25,000 gallons of pool water with ammonia will lower the TA by about 22 ppm or the equivalent of adding 140 ounces of full strength 31.45% muriatic acid.

Every 9 gallons of 12.5% liquid chlorine is equivalent to about 1 gallon of 31.45% acid.

(5) 7 ounce tabs will lower the TA by about 6.7 ppm from the acidity of the tabs plus another 4.2 ppm from oxidizing ammonia for a total of about 11 ppm.

Assuming another 10 gallons of liquid chlorine and the 5 tabs, the TA could drop another 33 ppm.

How is the water looking, is it still green and cloudy?

appreciate all the help, thank you!

will report back water test levels after adding more liquid chlorine, will keep adding 2x gallons of 12.5% every hour or two, is this okay for a vinyl liner?

we will also add another 2 boxes (8 lbs) of Borax (20 Mule). any issue with adding Borax and liquid chlorine right after each other?

Ok, just keep the chlorine up and this should break soon.

We finally got our CC number down to 0.5mm, had to add a total of about 25lbs of Borax to keep PH above 7.
Now there is a mild yellowish color on our blue vinyl liner, we thought it might be alge but it is not slimy and will not brush off with pool brush.
This appeared after a lot of heavy rain but we were still putting liquid chlorine in after the rain and our FC was holding in the 2 to 3ppm range.

Any idea what the mild yellowish on liner may be? Hope we didn't bleach the liner.

A bleached liner would be faded blue or white, not yellow.

Probably iron. Try some ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) on a spot.

Borrowing ideas from another thread, have the Pool Store test your well water for iron

We didn't put any well water in, infact we had to remove some water due to all the rain.
Amonia should be gone. Amonia measured 5ppm at fish store, we used about 15 gallons of 12.5% liquid chlorine, added 2 gallons every hour or two until the CC level dropped and FC started rising.
This yellowish tint on liner is by the bottom edges where pool floor meets pool walls, it goes about 1 foot up the walls mainly in the deep end. Pool brush and Polaris don't remove it.
FC is around 1.5 to 3ppm, CC is 0.5, PH is 7.2 and TA is around 110.

Where do you get liquid vitamin c?
It's the chewable tablet, rub it on the area (if you can reach it)

Your signature says you use well water =)

The Vit C is to check for something else =)
