How to lower combined clorine level?

Crush up some vitamin C tabs and sprinkle the powder on a spot. If the yellow clears right away, it’s probably iron. If the test verifies that it’s iron, you can get bulk for a whole treatment.

You can use a product like this:

Stainfree Extra Strength | Backyard Water Care | Natural Chemistry

Make sure to get the "Extra Strength" product and not the regular product. The regular product is not ascorbic acid. The regular Stain Free is citric acid.

Or, just Google for bulk ascorbic acid. Example:

Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C) | Bulk Apothecary

The top step is sort of sticky and pretty yellow. The liner we can't feel it's too deep and water to cold to get in yet.
Hard to see the slight yellow color in a photo.
Wouldn't any algee rub off with the pool brush though?
This yellowish color appeared after the SLAM process to clear amonia which also coincided with a lot of rain.
Before that the water was very clear and liner on deep end light blue. Water is still very clear now but liner towards bottom edges in deep end yellowish like something settled there, could borax or baking soda have done it?

Pool School - Mustard Algae
Mustard algae tends to grow on the walls and floor of the pool on the shaded side.

A SLAM can precipitate out iron due to the extensive chlorination oxidizing the iron.

Was your pool originally filled with well water?

This is our first spring in the house, prior owners said they used the well water to top up pool when it got low from evaporation... They would turn the water softener in house OFF when doing this..not sure why?
We assume they filled the pool with well water originally but who knows how many years ago that was, we might have original year 2002 water for all we know.
We have not yet needed to put water in the pool since moving in.

We put 1 gallon of 12.5% liquid chlorine in last night after sunset.
This morning our numbers are.
4 FC
0.5 CC
80 TA
7.2 PH

What should ideal TA be? Pool Math suggests 50 to 90 but TF100 kit instructions suggest 100 to 120. And the pool store computer suggested 125 to 150. So whats correct?

80 is fine for vinyl :)
The CC's suggest there is still organic breakdown going on.
So continue SLAM Process (and don't forget to match your suggested shock FC level with your CYA level[FC/CYA][/FC/CYA])

What is your CYA (I might have missed this in the thread)

Our pool water has been fairly stable and clear holding 1 - 3 ppm FC and 0 - 0.5ppm CC, PH 7.5 - 7.8, TA 80 - 90. Thank you all!

Now we have a new problem, it appears some green stuff is growing on the bottom of the pool liner in the deep end. Our Polaris pressure side cleaner does not work very well and our manual vacuum head is not great either (keeps sucking air into the filter and losing prime). We are running the filter for 8 hours a day (during the day hours), also not sure if this is long enough?

Assuming we have algae growing, how do you get rid of it? We have not put any algaecide in the pool, but do have this stuff... http://a.co/0o2z6rs Not sure if it's a good idea to use this stuff though because it has copper in it?

DON’T add a bunch of junk to your pool! You just need to slam it. Please see the article about slam. Link is below.

SLAM

Do you have a good test kit? You were going to need that to slam. I recommend the TF 100 that is available at TFtestkits.net. Please let us know if you have any questions! And welcome to the form!

What is your CYA? At the minimum recommended CYA of 30ppm, Your FC target is 4-6ppm, with an absolute minimum of 2ppm.

You have algae because your FC is too low for your CYA, unless the CYA is zero, which is not recommended.
