I came home from being away and the pool did not get kept up well with chlorine.

It has dark green spots of algae growing on the plaster bottom (primarily in the deep end but everywhere). They are very stubborn and using a whale tail pool brush didn’t loosen it.

how do I determine the type of algae I have in order to best tackle it?

I found swimming down with a garden house and a sprayer end attached tackled it fairly well but some still stuck in the rough texture of the plaster.

My thought was to SLAM the pool, keep spraying stubborn spots and brushing after the spraying.

Use your fingernail or bamboo stick and scrape some of them, then smudge it on a paper towel. If it is green or black, then it is black algae.

Can you post a picture of the pool where these areas are? Close-up and wide shots please.

They are all on the bottom and spread across the bottom. They only went up the sides approx 6 inches.

Most of it would “flake off” when I sprayed with the hose sprayer while under water.

I will get in the pool in a bit to scrape some off and test on paper.

My pH is high so currently circulating some muriatic acid and headed to buy more liquid chlorine before I SLAM.

This wide view is hard to see the dark spots. It’s a bit cloudy as Beryl has started to bring clouds. Also, the pool is textured and has dark and light pebbles in it. If you zoom in you can can see dark spots and most heavily in the 5’ end. The opposite end is 3’.

Here are a couple “closer” shots. My GoPro is dead so I couldn’t get one underwater.
