Hi, long story short, we didn't open this year till last week. Crystal clear pool, no swimming. Had a broken pump hose and took a week to finally fix it, and water turned green in the meantime. I do NOT know any of my starting chemistry, but I dumped in a gallon of 10% chlorine last night, and another one just now and am running the pump. The algae looks MUCH less green but is still bad - never had a pool of algae before this.
I'm gonna SLAM, but, how do I check CYA without algae (impossible?). The last 2 years I ran about 40 for the summer and opened to below 20. Should I assume again my CYA is 20 and SLAM at a level 5 FC? Should I test pH before, and add more CYA? We are not going to be swimming, just cleaning the pool and closing in a month when it's cooler, but I assume it's still worth adding CYA now/
What test results will/won't be accurate when there is algae present? Thanks so much.
Kristin
