How to apply muriatic acid?

Actually the less you fuss with it the safer. Just pour the acid in the pool directly (you might have to guesstimate how much) and brush well to mix it in.

Some folks actually lay the jug in the pool so that it is sort of floating, and pour then.

If you still want to pour it into an intermediate bucket, make sure you're pouring acid into water... NEVER pour water into acid.

Maddie is correct, the less you mess with it the better it is....

So, how do I do it?

Safety first. Wear old clothes and eye protection.

I like to get in front of a return on my hands & knees and splash a little water on the pool deck. Then open the acid bottle and partially submerge it in the water. Tilt the bottle to pour the acid in at close to water level, but don't let the bottle get submerged.

I don't measure because it's an additional step for me to spill the stuff. Remove the bottle from the water and set it down in the puddle on the pool deck while you replace the cap.

Try not to breathe the fumes..

Guess a little low on amount you need, then test again after it circulates well. You can always add more.

Since I have owned my pool, I have had to add two gallons of MA. The first gallon I mixed in a bucket then slowly poured it into the pool. Results were not what I hoped, so I did a second gallon but this time I added it directly to the pool by slowly pouring as I walked around. That gave me the results I needed. Use proper PPE however.
