How often to test chemistry?

Our new pool is about 9 months old now. We have been testing the chemistry twice a week and having to add anywhere from 1 pt to 1-1/2 pt acid after each test due to high pH (I assume this is because we have a new surface that is still leaching and keeping the pH elevated). Our other testing elements besides pH are always spot on.

Should we STILL be testing twice a week and adding acid twice a week or should we go to a once a week testing and chemical additions?

You get to know your pool and how many days you can go between each test. Sounds like you should be checking pH every few days and others once a week or less.

Should the pH be corrected twice a week though or can it hold out for a weekly correction?

Depends how rapidly your pH rises and how high it gets.

Nothing bad happens with a pH in the 8s for a few days.

But once pH tests above 8.0 or 8.2 it becomes harder knowing what the real pH is and how much acid you need to get it back into the 7s. So then you created more work for yourself needing multiple cycles of testing and dosing to get the pH under control.

Thank you for your help on this!
