How much testing reagents will I need to SLAM?

Some of that Home Depot bleach is really old. Be aware of that.

Look on the box. Printed is 17xxx. That means it was bottled on xxx day of 2017. Only use bleach that has a date greater than 18150 or so.

And this makes me sad.

The LC I got from HD is 35317, so 12/19/17. My problem is that my options are severely limited because of the quantities I need. I looked online at all the stores within a 100 mile radius. Most stores have four or five gallons. The HD I bought from last had another flat, but I imagine the date is the same. The very first LC came from Stillwater, OK where my daughter lives. It was from 2018 and they had lots of it, but that is a 3.5 hour drive.

Do you have any farm supply stores near you? They sometimes carry liquid chlorine for sanitation of livestock items.

You're doing a great job sticking to this. You'll be very much rewarded at the end of SLAM. Keep up the great work.

If I could work my tail off for a week or two and see as much difference in my body as I do my pool, I would do it! :D

That ain’t happening, but I can already see a huge difference in my pool, so it is easy to stick to it!

Bleach is usually date coded by the Julian date. So like Marty mentioned, 18150 means the year "18" or obviously 2018. Then 150 means the 150th day of this year. So day 150 was May 30th, 2018. So today would be coded like 18187 because July 6th is the 187th day of this year.

Or like he said, use 18150 or larger number. LOL

And keep your liquid chlorine in a cool place also, out of direct sunlight. I made the mistake of storing mine in my garage and all that heat kinda zapped it pretty quickly. UGH. Live and learn, I guess.

I bought 22 three-gallon cases, and had to use a fork lift to unload it into my garage. It is gonna stay there for this SLAM. Then when I have younger bodies to help me, the rest will come in for storage the remainder of the summer.

As of right now, I have more chlorine in my possession than all the Home Depot’s and Lowe’s in a 100 mile area combined. I will win. Lol

She is loaded for algae!!! You go girl!

A couple of summers ago we had one lady that needed to SLAM. She filled the back of her truck up with bleach from Home Depot. She got it home and poured in enough to get it to SLAM level. She waited about 30 mins and tested to make sure she had hit her target. She got a FC of.......................ZERO!!!!! What the what???? We had her go look at her jugs........they were two YEARS old!!! She took it all back, including the empties, and got her money back after quite a bit of "fussing". She ended up at Walmart and got their "pool shock" and cleared her pool with that! We all learned a lesson with that one.....check dates.

I do worry about the strength of the LC. I also worried about not finding any! Joplin, MO is clean out!

I guess I could have gone to Wal-Mart..... Long ago I quit buying toilet paper there because when you fill your cart with TP, they look at you funny. Imagine how they would look at me if I filled my cart(s) with bleach! (We don't use that much TP, but I hate running out so I would stock up when I went. Thank you, Amazon!)

I did give the guy who loaded the LC for me at Home Depot a lesson in dates on the LC. I find myself spewing pool information to anyone I talk to, so my hubby and oldest daughter are having fun with that. I tend to jump in with both feet, and this pool SLAM is my latest plunge.

Make sure to add a tarp, duct tape and a shovel!!!!! Oh and a white shirt with some ketchup spilled on it hehe

Aaaaannnnddd, my last test was 1 above my target FC level, so my LC must be good.

I guess it is better than the 8% I was giving it credit for!

SWEET!!!

Don't forget Dollar General and such have bleach BUT if it does not list the % don't bother buying it as that is usually a sign of it being low like 3% or less :( Better than nothing IF it comes to that.

WHAT??? OH yeah!!! Now comes the hard part...............POP = pool owners patience- This is where the filter will be your best friend. Do you want to try some DE in your sand filter to help it out some? Here is the link: Pool School - Add DE to a Sand Filter

When you do this make sure you are there to babysit the filter. Some filters like this amount some like that amount.........Start at 1/4 cup............watch your gauge...If is jumps up fast then stop the pump and backwash.......If you don't see any rise in pressure in about 30 mins then add another 1/4 cup, Do this until you find what your filter likes. The first couple of nights I would do a small backwash so you don't have to worry about it.
