How do you get the jet covers off?

I know this is an old thread, but I thought this may help others with the aquastar return jets.

I bought a vsjw102 wrench, but the slots were just a bit too small for the tabs on the retaining ring, so I made a 3d model for a wrench with a little wider slots. It seems to work well, if you happen to have a 3d printer.
