Houston, TX Pool Build Diary - From Design to Dive-In

Well, OK so we were supposed to gunite today, but our builder had said it would be tight to make Monday last week. We also had a small hiccup and found a few fixes that had to be made. The RiverFlow system was thought to be all 12" pipe, but it turns out one section of it is 10" and the supplier that had the 12" did not have 10" in stock, but they could get it same day. That was discovered on Saturday and we needed it to make gunite today (Monday). My wife and I also found a few issues on Sunday that needed to be addressed as we measured and looked closer at what had been done. It was all minor stuff, but it had to get fixed before gunite. The winds were just not in our favor.

Then this happened. The forecast is calling for 5" to 8" of rain where we are...

Our builder had talked to us beforehand about the timing and that we don't want to rush gunite. Weather had really been cooperating with us up to now and of course we couldn't have just ONE MORE DAY...... So plan B was initiated. We got a skim coat applied to hold things together until this weather can pass through and we get another clear window.

So there we have it. Things will be mostly on hold for a few days. I think once it clears up, we'll have one more day of plumbing prep and then gunite. Maybe by next week I am thinking.

I was wondering about everybody today. Feels like rain over here too so I think we'll get quite a bit more than just a shower for Houston. It's looking dark outside when only an hour ago it was a beautiful day with a nice breeze.

Here's to progress... Next week. Lol

Dig looks great, Plat! That was fast work with dig and rebar the same day! That's great that they flashed it. We had ours flashed 2weeks ago.
I'm in the same jet stream and waiting for gunite...

We're in a similar situation waiting for the deck and plaster until after the rain

That is very nice tile. We came close to something similar but the adder was way to much($2700 for the pool/spa). And we weren't bold enough.

First time and new pool owner in your area (pool was "released" to me on 3/5/16). Have not read to end of thread, but so far has been very interesting. Thanks for sharing. That is indeed some beautiful tile. I wish I had it.

Also, as a new pool owner, it seems a very good idea to schedule pool features (e.g. waterfalls) to run at least a few minutes every few days if you can. To circulate the water in the plumbing. I did not think of this, and my PB did not set this up. But it makes total sense. Thanks TFP!

We've got more rain in the forecast too. Was planning to take a group to the rodeo carnival on Friday but reconsidering for a different day with all this rain. Hopefully we'll get enough dry weather here soon for you guys!!
