Houston, TX Pool Build Diary - From Design to Dive-In

We had a power outage for about 3 hours today. Wasn't even any rain or anything. In fact it was a nice day after all the rain. Once the power was back on I texted the builder and he sent a couple of his guys out. They pumped the pool out with 2 sumps. Took all of about 3 hours. It looks so empty and sad... I guess a good sign though since that means the crew can get in to wrap up loose ends now. Hoping for Monday gunite.

Right now weather.com says:

Friday 20%
Saturday 20%
Sunday 10%
Monday 0%
Tuesday 10%

That is not looking too bad right now. Of course it will be completely opposite in 3 hours and then flip 18 more times through the weekend. I'm not even sure why they forecast Texas weather in the spring....

Right! Back from boating days, when weather really matters, I learned that NOAA, weather.gov, is by far the most accurate weather forecast. Weather.com was the worst.

Thanks pooldv!!!

Weather.gov is similar:

Detailed Forecast
Today A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before noon (been dry so far this morning...)
Tonight A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Saturday A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon.
Saturday Night Partly cloudy
Sunday Mostly sunny
Sunday Night Mostly clear
Monday Sunny
Monday Night Mostly clear
Tuesday Mostly sunny
Tuesday Night Partly cloudy

We're looking good for Monday or even Tuesday if any delays. Builder sent his guys out this morning to pump out residual water. Not much else going on.

Wow I definitely arrived late to this party... I absolutely love your design! My very favorite yet! By far! ... And that list... Would have saved me so many headaches and frustrations I had from not asking the right questions before I signed :(

Thanks Indigo! The funny thing is I was late to your build posting as well and wasn't sure how I missed it either!! It's clear when you look at both of our designs that we have very similar tastes. The Tiki Hut is a great touch and even more so being in Boca because it just seems like it fits in with the more tropical environment there. It ties in very well! If we had the room, I would be figuring out how to add one...

Plat we are definitely design twins, not identical twins but still twins lol
I wanted a modern/Balinese pool, I wanted that Zen feel

OK, so yeah, now this makes total sense when you say Balinese design. We looked at every Bali villa pool photo we could find as we did our initial planning. This pool in particular was a major design inspiration for us:

We took a lot of cues from it. If our yard allowed for it, we would have copied it even more. Unfortunately our fence line and easement are not squared or parallel to the house, so we had to stagger the back wall down. We love the daybed under the thatched roof. That is why I said before that if we had the room, we would be looking more at adding a Tiki area like you built.
