Hot Tub Issues

My mom purchased a vacation home with a pool and hot tub. I've been trying to figure out how everything works and am looking for some advice. Pictures are below. My main questions are:
1. Do the pool and hot tub share a filter?
2. How do I control the heater?
3. Is the heater only for the hot tub or would it heat both?

It appears that you have two completely separate systems, one for the pool and one for the spa. Heater appears to be plumbed to the spa only, though with all those valves it may be possible to get it to heat the pool. Hard to follow the plumbing from the pictures.

Heater is controlled from its touchpad. Without seeing the wiring, the heater likely gets power when the spa pump is energized. It won't light without the pump moving water. It is important that the sun shield be over the touchpad as the sun deteriorates it very quickly.

Pool filter-pump (the one connected to the sand filter) had/has a seal leak, damage (rust) is seen at the bottom of the motor. It may be noisy now and need replacing soon.
