This may be a stupid question but is there any harm in running the pump when the water level is at the top of the skimmer opening instead of in the middle of the skimmer? I know that debris won't be able to get into the skimmer basket when the water level is this high but I wasn't sure if the high water level could cause any other problems. I don't want to drain out any water until it stops raining and the ground dries out some so I can prevent the ground from turning into a mud pit around my pool equipment and backwash line.

The pump doesn't care.

But you might want to start making plans to empty some water out, so you get to decide where it goes and not the water itself. Once the pool overflows, it could get behind the fiberglass, or head for the house, or wash out a planter you just filled.
