My name is Emily and I have a 25,000 gallon kidney pool that is probably 30 years old. The plaster is about 7 years old and has lots of pitting and etching. I had been using the weekly shock, pool perfect, chlorine tab route until recently when I learned that the pool store was selling me products with additives, like cya, that slowly accumulate in my pool. We recently had to drain our pool by 50% and refill as a result. I decided to swear off the pool store, purchased a more thorough test kit, and started gathering more information about maintenance of my pool. We went out of town for 2 weeks, and although we tried to load up the chlorine tab floater and shock before leaving, we came back to a pretty green pool. I’ve corrected most issues, but now we are struggling with what I believe is black algae in the cracks of the plaster and really anywhere it can take hold. It’s very resistant to brushing. Curious whether y’all might have any advice. I know I need to Replaster , just putting it off a little while longer. Thanks and looking forward to meeting everyone!
