Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I just found this site via a search for something better (more affordable) than using Leslie's Power Powder. We bought this house (came with pool) over 20 years ago and I can't believe I am only now finding out how much more affordable pool chlorination can be. I've already found some really good things on this site and am looking forward to deepening my knowledge of pool care. I've always done my own testing and maintenance, so not concerned at all about doing the needed tests and handling chemicals.

This site looks like a great resource. Thanks for building it! Very glad to have found you.

Welcome theRich :) Oh yeah.... TFP is way more affordable than pool stores!

For example, on average I spend no more than $150 a YEAR for all my pool needs. That includes testing kit refills, supplemental liquid chlorine when its too cold for the SWG to produce or I need instant increase in FC, a little muriatic acid, that sort of thing.

When I've been in pool stores I cringe seeing folks spending *hundreds* and talking like they do that frequently. OUCH!

So again, welcome to TFP.... I hope you'll find what you're looking for here :)

Hi @theRich welcome to TFP! Isn’t it great what google finds when you go looking. I found TFP last year looking for a better way myself. I haven’t looked back and sounds like you won’t look back either.

Get yourself one of the recommended quality test kits, don’t forget the speedstir and you’ll be on your way.

Hi an1vrsy,

I'm still learning about navigating the site, but have not yet found where test kits are recommended, except possibly in passing in this or that thread. Is there somewhere on there that consolidates recommendations on test kits? EDIT: I found the recommendations: Test Kits Compared. I have already ordered a Taylor K-2006 kit (should arrive tomorrow) to replace my ancient HTH kit. It looked like it could do all the core tests recommended in the ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry article. I can return it if something better is more strongly recommended.

Also, thanks for mentioning a speedstir. I haven't heard of those before. Just googled it, so now am looking into that as well.
