Hi everybody. Had some issues with the DE in a sand filter.

I’m at the end of a slam right now trying to clear that cloudy water faster. My numbers are good and all that.

I followed the directions. Put 1/4c of DE in a bucket, took out my filter sock and added slowly. Once I gained maybe half a point in pressure my pressure shot down to zero and my pump started making scary noises. Loud thumping.

Quickly shut it off and backwashed.

Turned on filter again and fine. Figured I’d try again. Same result.

Anybody ever see this happen? Am I doing something wrong?

I have an AG 18 foot 10k gallon pool. Sand filter is brand new this year. Radiant water systems 16 inch, all I could afford when the Hayward went. 1 HP pump.

Have 70lbs of sand inside.

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

The filter is plugging off. You probably should wait a couple days for the bulk of the material in your water is filtered out conventionally.

What are you using to test the water? Please put that in your signature.

Thanks! I have a Taylor 2006. Water is very milky. Usually at this stage I expect to be backwashing everyday yet my pressure isn’t really going up. It’s brand new. Only had it for a week now.

That’s what I thought. It scared me so I just backwashed it all back out and good as new. I’m afraid to do it again.

Trying to figure out how to update my signature on mobile.
