Okay, just got the hand-off today from the PB. Using test strips :)rolleyes:), they think everything is peachy. I'm of course skeptical. My readings with a TF100:

FC: .5

pH: 8.4

TA: 60

CH: 350

CYA: 0

CSI: .58

The pool has been operational for about two weeks. Salted and the SWG has been on for about that same duration. Here in So Arizona the pool temp has remained around 60F without the heater and that is where I expect it to stay for a few months (with occasional heating up of the spa.)

Pool Math is showing me what I need to add, my question is if I should do all the additives (muriatic acid, etc) at the same time or is it better to add the various chemicals over a period of days to see a better "cause & effect" from each one?

Thanks!

Kurt

You need to get 30 ppm of CYA in the pool for the winter. IF your SWCG is working it is not putting out enough chlorine. I suspect it is off due to cold water. Add bleach now to 3 ppm. Add acid to get to pH of 7.5. Test after you add (wait 30 minutes with pump on) to see if you need to add more.

Have you removed the metal ionizer from the Jandy SWCG? I suggest doing that soon.

Take care

Alternative sanitizers and pools--The Truth!!

Also - use the search box in the upper right and search 'ionizer'.

The copper added by the ionizer will turn blonde hair green and will eventually stain your pool surfaces. It can only be removed from the pool by draining the water.

Take care.

I looked back and your signature (KurtinTUS) shows you do not have a metal ionizer -- sorry.

It is jstephens24tx that shows the ionizer.

Thanks!

No problem, Marty. I appreciate all your comments!

Also, I was planning on doing the sock full of dry stabilizer in the skimmer trick to boost CYA. Any guesses as to how long it might need to remain in the skimmer (are we talking hours?...days?) I'm just a little worried about overshooting the CYA target level on my first attempt....

Depending on the amount - a few hours. The more you squeeze the sock the faster the granules will dissipate into a milky substance. Once it's all dissolved, you can consider your CYA at the target you projected on the Poolmath Calculator. Have a nice weekend.
