Help with SWG Wiring

Good afternoon,

With help from these forums, I decided to purchase a Circupool RJ60+ in order to convert my pool. However, when I went to hook up the new unit, I ran into trouble. I'm not above hiring someone to install it for me, however I thought I would try to make an attempt myself first and maybe learn something in the process.

I've attached a photo of my command console for reference. The red marks are where the pump wiring is coming in and connecting. The green dots are where the SWG console should connect when referencing instructions as well as a previous thread on this forum. However, where those green dots are, I don't see the pump actually connecting there on mine, so when I made those connections, the SWG console did not turn on. I'm sure this is some sort of error on my part and now I'm stuck.

Any help you all can offer is greatly appreciated!

89,

You have a VS pump, so it is connected directly to a Circuit Breaker

You need to connect your SWCG to the load side of the Pump/Filter relay..

Currently you only have 120 volts going to the line side of your pump filter relay.. Where does the red wire currently on the load side go??

You can set your SWCG up to connect to 120 Volts AC or 240 Volts AC.. Since your Pump/Filter relay only has 120 volts, I suggest that you set the SWCG to 120 Volts..

If you want to run the SWCG off of 240 volts, you will have to rewire the relay..

Please tell me what the Pump/Filter relay is currently powering.

Thanks,

Jim R.

89,

We are not fans of UV or Ozone systems.. :(

You know that Ozone and a SWCG don't work together too well.. The Ozone eats some of the chlorine the SWCG makes..

Up to you of course, but do you intend to shut off the Ozone? If so, you can just wire the SWCG to where Ozone is currently connected..

Even if you don't disconnect the Ozone, you can still wire it to the same place.

The 120 Hot line from the SWCG power center to the load side of the pump filter relay. (pin 2)
The Neutral to the Neutral bus bar
The Ground to the Ground bus bar.

Obviously, the SWCG Power Center must be configured for a 120 Volt input.. I am not sure how that is done in your specific SWCG.. If the manual is not clear on how to do it.. Do NOT proceed without asking more question first, before applying any power.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I didn't know that about Ozone systems. I've read on here that people don't much like them, and to be honest I don't even know if it's functioning (I don't know how to check), it came with the house when I bought it. I think in the instruction manual for the SWG, there was a page about converting to 120, but I'll make sure before I do anything stupid.

Hello again! I appreciate all of your help so far. I was able to do a lot of reading and figured out the wiring issue and how to convert to 120 appropriately. My next question is about bonding. Reading the manual for the SWG console, it says to use the lug on the side of the unit for attaching bonding ground. What does this mean or how do I do this? The SWG is not being used for now until I can figure this part out so I know everything is safe prior to use.

Thanks again!

Bonding wire...
Look on your pump for an attached bare copper wire. That 8AWG bare wire is the bonding wire. You will need to get a length of 8AWG bare copper wire to run from the bonding wire at the pump or nearly equipment to the SWG. You can use a copper split bolt to connect the existing copper bonding wire to the new copper bonding wire and then run the new piece of wire to the SWG bonding lug.
