Help with SLAM

I re read my post and I explained poorly. The hole on the ground is nasty. But, I unscrewed the hose and I side is clean. It is the exterior of the hose that lays in the ground hole that is yucky. So not where water is running through. Now, clearly something in there was eating some FC today. I ran laminars a long time. Keeping at it.

Saw your logs. Can you take pictures of everything that runs on the bubbler/laminar "system?" Anything that turns on with this system. Take more pictures that you think you need. Lots of people watching this thread, I'm sure someone will see something.

Ok. Will do tomorrow!

OK I’ll take some pics and some more today in the meantime would you look at my log and my note from this morning. Pool is. Crystal clear. You can’t tell because all of the glare of the trees.

Yeah, I get the stress. No worries, we do what we can. Hopefully someone will see something in the pics to help.

Dosing higher won't hurt anything, just unnecessary. Don't sweat it. Just take your time with the testing and dosing.

Can't touch pool for 4 days, resurfacing the deck. Last night I wanted to add 5fc to get to 11, so programmed the LC pump. Woke up this morning and had to test 4 times to get a consistent result. Really weird for me, usually once and done. I'm at 14. Go figure, no idea how that happened. So, it does happen.

In other news, when my issues started last fall the pool store (I know!) kept telling me I had high phosphates. Yes, I have a good kit, but until recently did not have phosphate test. I know super high phosphate can cause issues when you have algae. I just tested mine. Registering over 1000ppb. I have to believe this is contributing to my problem.

Can you explain that pump in the pot. What is the water in there?
My laminar? Water that has not drained. I scrubbed it with bleach and sprayed water down in the hole and it has not completely drained out. Or if water gets down in the laminar off of the concrete deck does that make sense?

You can have all the algae food (phosphates) in the world but if you maintain fc levels that don’t allow algae to live in the 1st place it’s kind of a moot point. Chlorine is the answer. Eradicate algae w/ slam & always maintain adequate fc levels thereafter according to the FC/CYA Levels.

I understand thatnow. It’s moot right now because the algae is already there apparently. Been slamming almost 2 weeks. Crystal clear. Had chlorine too low for CYA last year (didn’t know).

Krista,
You’re well on your way!
Almost to the finish line 🏁!
Soon you’ll be into the maintenance part of TFPC & with your test kit, swg, robot, plus your new found knowledge it will be a breeze.

I fee like this will never end!!
I feel your pain, more that you know.

As for this in your logs: Wondering if my bleach is weak

Do your addition and test after 20 minutes...Note the starting FC and after add FC. Note what your target was. If they don't match, your bleach is weak or your pool is bigger. If you note these values, I will help you change your Pool Math setup so your adds match your expectations.

As to the length of time, they are all different. You are constrained by your work. Adding every 2 hours really makes a difference with the SLAM time. Not a condemnation of what you are doing, we all do what we can. Just letting you know that is extending the time for the Slam.

Finally, I'm confused by your logs. Last night you tested 19. Then you made an addition and didn't test again until the morning. You should make your addition, test 30 minutes after and that is your starting OCLT value. If you are just using the Target FC as your start (with your final add), this can introduce errors in the OCLT. You never know if you actually got to your target FC.

Let's do this tonight. Note your target FC. Note the start FC with last add. Add. Wait 30 minutes and test FC again. Post those three numbers tonight (PoolMath for Start and End. Make note of target), that will get us started on the pool math adjustments. Go to bed.

Test FC in the morning before the sun hits the pool, note that. We will see where we get. I didn't look back to find your target slam FC. If your target was 20 and your add didn't hit target, you may have added to 19.5 and actually passed. DON'T GET EXCITED YET!!! LOL Let's do OCLT carefully tonight and see what happens. Overnight Chlorine Loss Test Reading up again would not hurt!!!

Thank you. Please see my log and note just now

If I am at 20, can I use this number for my OCLT?

Yes, as long as the sun isn't hitting the pool or after sundown.

OCLT on!
