Help (sand replacement)

I changed the sand in my cooper ranger filter and now the multiport valve wont go back on all the way down. Is it possible sand got underneath the stand pipe? Is there a way to fix it without draining and replacing the sand again?

That is probably what happened, and most certainly you will have to empty it. Make sure this time you fill the filter with 1/4 of water first. Do you have the original cap pipe protector? this will make sure the pipe is at the right place while filling. Maybe available at a pool store.

I covered the pipe with duct tape before I put the sand in.
