I am very new to the pool game so bear with me. We had a pool refurbished this year (it hadn’t been touched in about 35 years)! It’s gorgeous and I love it. It’s gunnite and we got it replastered this year so it’s all new. We have been noticing what I believe to be mustard algae - I used yellow out and it got rid of it the first time. We then went away for a week and I came back and it was back - the chlorine had evaporated very fast I think. We had a pool guy coming but I’m not sure he did the best job keeping the levels right. The ph was always high - the Chlorine nonexistent. The second time I decided to use the hth green to blue and which of course included the flocculant (I thought when pouring it in this is a huge mistake but then did it anyway - at least I have now learnt NEVER AGAIN!). I then for good measure did yellow out again. I know this was not a smart way of doing things but I panicked and am learning.

I’m now at my wits end with two things now - I cannot not matter how much I vacuum to the waste make it all leave. I’ve attached a current photo of it. I also see a couple dots which are terrible hard to see in the photo but look like there may be a little algae coming back! They haven’t changed in the past 4 days but if it’s a start, I want to nip it in the bud.

My pool is 36,000 gallons.
The ph is 7.2-7.5
Cya is 30-40 (it had gone to zero but I sorted that the other day)
Chlorine is now consistently reading at 3 (instead of disappearing continuously)
Alkalinity is 70

Hi Mary 👋
Did you run the floc through your filter media?
If so you may need to replace it.
What kind of filter do you have? (Sand, cartridge, de)

To clear your pool you will need to do the
SLAM Process using liquid chlorine.
You must have a proper test kit that contains all the appropriate tests -
Taylor k2006c or tf100/pro are the only ones that include everything required.
How are you currently testing the water?
Also, no more yellow out or other potions.
They aren’t helping the situation.

Until your test kit comes you can add 5ppm worth of liquid chlorine to the pool each day to keep things from getting worse.
Pour it slowly infront of a running return & brush the area.
Use PoolMath to calculate amounts.

When it arrives, do all the tests & post the results here.
What kit are you using now? It may just need a couple things to make it complete.
