Help newbie with pool

PB # 3 sent me email saying he made calculation mistake and PROJECT TOTAL __________________$ 67,378.67 has decreased to __________________$ 61,846.67

I think I will choose PB # 3 but didn't understand if this pool is salt water pool or not and what upgrades if any should I choose?

Will appreciate input.

PB# gives option of Clear Blue Ionizer System: $795 v/s Fluidra Astral E35 Salt System: $ 949 in upgrades.

He said he will do in line chlorinator irrespective of what I choose from above as salt water won't make chlorine efficiently once temperature drops below 60F.

He said even if it's salt water pool the amount of chlorine is same as in fresh water/chlorine pool.

There will be chlorine even if I choose Clear Blue Ionizer System but the amount of chlorine is less compared to salt water pool (0.5 PPM v/s 3 PPM)

He says I can choose whatever I like. He is not pressuring me to choose one over another. He gave price quote on both of them.

I will go with synthetic grass. Will it be cheaper to use Landscaper for synthetic grass (I will need landscaper as house is being built). He is OK with choosing landscaper for it.

He recommends having Drainage lines for deck or turf(117ft 4” line , 25ft overflow line: $1359) but I can get it done from Landscaper contractor who puts synthetic grass. PB says even landscape contractor will recommend same and instead of him, landscape contractor can do both synthetic grass and drain lines for deck or turf.

In regards to plaster v/s quartz v/s pebble, he said price goes up but so does longevity of the material and I can choose anything I want.

Any difference if I choose 12" coping v/s 18" coping?

No pressure to sell one over the other. It's more like A La Carte and I choose what I want to make a pool.

I am close to finish line on this part of house building. Please provide input before I sign contract with PB3.

Only in Texas do they still install the trichlor thing in SWCG pools. Unnecessary. During winter you pour a quart or two of liquid chlorine in the pool once a week or so.

I would be careful getting an off brand SWCG like the Astral. That is a product from Australia. I cannot remember if you were getting any kind of automation but best to stay with a product aligned with the automation manufacturer.

What does it mean by Automation? PB# has • Jandy iAqualink wireless pool computer(pc,tablet, or smartphone controlled) in his quote.

Can you please recommend which salt water system and automation to get. I can ask PB for it.

Perhaps Marty meant "not" magic. In other words, there is no magic treatment for water chlorination, even though some builders try to sell some odd-ball items. You either treat the pool manually with chlorine, or invest in a salt generator that will create the chlorine for you. That's the most popular method for convenient chlorination. I just installed mine a couple weeks ago. Automation is just that - some sort of control board at the pool control center that links-up to any programmable items (SWG, variable speed pump, lights, etc) and then perhaps to a controller in the house or your phone. Nice if you have the $$ to do it. They can be simple or incredibly fancy. For SWGs, just make sure to get one rated for twice the size of your pool. See below for some examples.

I emailed the PB and got reply back -
"Fluidra owns Jandy now Fluidra perfected generators long before other companies. Their salt systems are solid. This one is rated for up to 35,000 gallons so it can run at low production rate and last even longer than one rated for 25,000 gallons"

Do be aware that Jandy products preclude much of any DIY repair or maintenance in the future. Jandy has done its best to lock out any pool owner self maintenance of equipment.

Pool will be ~ 10,000 gallons. So this salt water at 35,000 gallons should be sufficient.

If not Jandy then which other brand/model number for various equipments do you recommend?
