My filter takes a few mins to build up pressure when turned on, when back washing.
When I try to vacuum I have NO pressure. I primed hose and connected under water plugged second intake. I'm at a loss!

Is there air in the pre-filter basket?
No I bleed the air out first then it fills up with air. I think I figured it out. There is a small leak in the intake hose I was hooked up to. I plugged that one and moved vacuum to the second intake and I got pressure.

That will do it! Unfortunately hoses are notorious for air leaks. If you leave your pool set up year round you may want to consider hard plumbing it. Gives you more options with valves to control the flow of water in and out of the pool.

Most of the stuff seems like its sand on the bottom. What could be causing that?

It could be dead algae or it could be sand from the filter. If you hold a sock over the return with the pump running for a few minutes anything going through the filter should collect in the sock. If it is sand it will feel gritty, if it feels powdery or slimy it is algae. What does the water look like?

I've been putting de in filter when I vacuum. Ive been having to get in the pool to vacuum the dust.this may sound crazy, but The best way I found to get the dust and dirt without stirring it up is I used my shop vac attachment hooked up to my pool vacuum hose and vacuum with that. It actually gets it up and then I backwash. I'm still getting sand from my filter but I haven't pulled my filter apart to check it yet
