Well I bought a house with a 20x40 30k gallon indoor pool. And now I’m confused and frustrated with balancing this dang thing. I upgraded to a SWG last fall. New filter system and new heater. Ever since it’s been a battle to get everything balanced. So please lend me your knowledge you Jedi pool masters.
Pool

alkalinity 138 PPM
PH 7.43
Free chlorine 1.42

10:47 AM 6/18/23
Free chlorine 0.06 PPM
PH 7.11
alkalinity 123
Phosphates 1000+

5:52 PM 6/20/23
Free chlorine 0.05
Alkalinity 128
PH 7.26

6:26 pm 6/21/23
PH 7.17
Alkalinity 128
Free chlorine 0.09
Total chlorine 0.09
Phosphates 500 - 1000

8:06 AM 6/24/23
CYA 46 PPM
Free chlorine 0.07
TA 112
PH 7.19

This is my current testing I feel that I’ve got everything right except chlorine. My SWG has been at 100% for the last 48 hours and my FC is still non existent. I need to get a salt level test kit. I’ll add pictures of what I’m currently using. Any advice will help. Thank you.

How much chlorine are you adding to supplement the SWCG? If you’ve been low on chlorine and algae bloom brewing will consume more chlorine than it can make. You’d be wise to get some chlorinating liquid in there to avoid that.

The other recommendation would be not to trust that pool testing device and to use one of the two recommended Taylor kits on TFP. Lots of feedback on the devices not working very well long term.

What SWCG? How long is it run each day? Please fill out your signature.

Once concern is the FC being high and bleaching the test strips. Get a cheap OTO kit from Walmart or Home Depot. Use that for TC (Yellow tester) and show us what you get.

I filled out my signature I’m using the same SWG as you I have been running it at 100% for the last 48 hours. Before it would run 12 hours daily at 20%

Great. You completed the member profile. A signature is more complete and accessible to members. See Create Your Signature - Further Reading

With the OTO showing nothing, the SWCG is either not producing chlorine, you have an algae issue, or you have added some odd pool store potions.

I assume you have an Intellichlor SWCG. Post up a picture of the SWCG panel with the pump running. What are the lights doing?

Also, do you have an automation system?
I do not I’m on a time clock is all. I just went to the local pool place and evidently Utah has Crud water he recommended to drain my water half way then re fill the pool. I did a sodium chloride test strip it registered at 4000 ppm. I also added a gallon of liquid chlorine.

Why would you need to drain water?
If those lights are all on steady, you are making chlorine.

According to the guy at the pool store “20 years in the business” you should drain your pool partially every 2 years
Well in that case... The guy that works the cash register at my tire shop says you should throw out your tires every year regardless of how much you drive, he's got 20 years in the "running the POS at the tire shop" business haha. Guess I've been doing it wrong all along by measuring wear and replacing when worn lol.

They say that cause they don’t want you to know that their advice is bad and the stuff they sold you doesn’t actually work very well. You just need to get the chlorine up to a sanitary level.

That depends. For those that use TFPC, the primary reason you have to drain is the CH rising due to high calcium fill water and high evaporation. As you have an indoor pool, there should be little evaporation. Truly, your water should never need to be changed out.

It is time to get a proper test kit. Something is wrong as the data you show does not match up with the picture of the pool and the SWCG generation of chlorine.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. It’s worth a try

I was just repeating what was said to me. I came here for advice.

You have found the right place and are in good hands.

I don't have any experience with indoor pools, follow the advice that was given.
