Hi everyone I need some help, I don’t understand the instructions I’ve been given at my pool store. It says that if it is this way it means the valve is completely open. But seems like my valve is different from that one of the picture from the store. Are all valves the same?

Also, I don’t seem to be able to turn my valve all the way to the other side. I want to close the pump , as in the instructions so I can safely clean my pump basket. Some YouTube videos advice doing this, so I definitely need to do this to clean my pump basket?

Can someone help me in understanding the different options of this valve, or knowing if they are all standard? And tell me if it is normal that I can’t turn it all the way to the other side?

Noob here, it’s my second week with this pool please be respectful. Thank you IMG_2349.jpeg

I'm assuming top and bottom are from the pool and the pipe at 3 o'clock goes to the pump. If this is correct, proceed below, if not, post a wider picture of the equipment.

You need to change the indexing.

1 Take this screw off:

2 Remove the handle (pull straight up).
3) Turn the handle to 6 o'clock or 12 o'clock and re-install. It should then allow you to close off the pump feed.
4) After you clean the pump, return the handle to 6 or 12 o'clock, whichever orientation you placed it in step 3.
5) Remove the screw and return the handle to 3 o'clock.
6) put screw back

Yes, this is correct, the pump closes at 3 o clock. will try this in a few minutes. Do I need to have my pump off while doing this?

Sorry, since the valve is horizontal, #2 should be "pull straight up in the direction the screw came out"

Make sense?

No Question. OFF!!!
Just tried to do this, I pulled the handle out and re-installed it at 6 o clock, but it still did not let me turn it at 3 o clock. I tried to install it at 12 as well, it did not work. I attempted to see if I could install it at 3 (testing my luck) it did not work either. What could be the issue?

Do I absolutely need to do this to clean my pump basket?

post a picture of the top of the valve housing without the handle on. Post another picture of the bottom of the handle.

Somehow (sharpie), make a mark at 9 o'clock on the shaft the handle goes onto. Put the handle on upside down and try to move the valve 180 degrees.

Turn the handle over so you are sliding the top of the handle onto the shaft. There are stops on top of the valve and under the handle. I'm trying to remove the stops from the equation.

I think I get what you are saying I just do not seem to be able to do it. If I put my handle I need to make it align with the valve housing for it to even fit. I am able to put my handle back on in any position I want but 3 o clock.

The mark I told you to make is where the gate is located. I don't want you to lose where the gate is.

I don't want you to damage the shaft with tools. I was hoping the handle would go on upside down, so the stops were no longer in play.

I'm trying to get the mark over top of the pipe to the pump.

If the handle will not go on upside down, then put the handle on partially and try to move the mark 180 degrees, keeping the stops from engaging.

Where do the two other pipes come from (12 and 6 o'clock)

12 is pointing towards my skimmer, not sure what would that be. and 6 o clock towards the ground as shown in the picture, I think the drain? I honestly still do not know for what reasons I would close those 2 yet.

Make sure the mark on the shaft is in the 9 o'clock position. Put the handle on, handle facing 3 o'clock. Put the screw back on. TURN the handle to 6 o'clock, your valve will be off.

you mean installing the handle at 3 o clock? I tried that it does not work. The handle does not fit in in that position.

Did you turn the handle after this picture? It was in the 3'oclock position.

Did you mark the shaft as I asked?

Sorry yes, I just dont seem to understand why do i need to mark it or where
. I know that the valve is open at 3 o clock. And yes Ive tried to turn the handle when it is this way and it just turns 180 degrees to 6 and 12 o clock positions
