Hi there from Chile,

I have been reading TFP for a while. I find it whenever I have pool issues :D
Doing TFP correctly in Chile is difficult as we are missing certain chemicals, such as Cyanuric acid. It is also impossible to get a Taylor or the TFP 100 test kit, so I am using La Motte test strips.
I returned from vacation on the 14th of February, which is peak pool season here in Chile, and I have had to close the pool most days since.
I will look for the appropriate subforum to post details, but I understand help is challenging without a proper test kit.

Hello, and welcome to Trouble Free Pools :) We're glad to have you join us.
The triclor you list in your signature line contains CYA, so be careful there that it doesn't build up too high. Switching back and forth between Liquid Chlorine and the trichlor may serve your needs, particularly if you can monitor via testing.
Do you have access to Amazon? Take a look for Taylor test kits, particularly any with the FAS-DPD chlorine.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Not sure why it's not possible to get those kits. Amazon doesn't want to ship them down here either even though nowadays we can get most things from Amazon, believe it might be too do with import or flight restrictions of the reagents (wild guess).

@ChilePool don't you get quite a bit of rain there? If so the addition of the rain water and having to drain it a bit could help lower your CYA problems a bit.

Can you get stuff from Australia?
Hello,

I wish we got rain. I live in Santiago, where there is no rain between October and April. My CYA is between 10 and 20, which is why I use TriChlor and also why I was having issues this season. What we don't have is Cyanuric Acid with which I would be able to fix my low CYA immediately.

Not sure if I can get a test kit from Australia, normally the US is more accessible but it appears that the reagents for the test kits have some kind of restriction.

My CYA is between 10 and 20, which is why I use TriChlor
If you use Trichlor for daily chlorination, and you are not draining water often, then your CYA is far higher than what you state.

Every 8 oz trichlor tablet you use adds 3.7 ppm FC and 2.2 ppm CYA to your pool. The CYA remains unless you drain the pool .

Thanks for that calculation, this is helpful. I purchased 7kg (15.6 lbs) of those and used a little more than half. Tomorrow I will count them and do the math.
