Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

I ordered peacock, steel blue and sbbs mix. The guy I talked to thought I should take a look at the turquoise so he's sending that too. The turquoise costs more, so I'm hoping I don't love it ;)
He said I should get it in a couple of days.

What is sbbs mix? Did you speak to Dave? He was who I talked to. He is the person who does the glass designs and I believe is the founder of the company. He was quite talkative and told me about how they were made (I didn't realize the were reversible!). He also talked me into getting a turquoise sample. In the end, he didn't charge me either!

Oh, and he told me that the tile on the PebbleTec site (not the luminous beads) are his tiles!

Wow! No, I spoke with Brian. But now I want to know the amazing details that Dave shared with you! STORY-TIME Marla!

Me too! Calling them when I get done with this stomach bug. I've read through a dozen or more long threads to entertain myself today! It was a productive research day I guess if nothing else! Tell us about Dave please Marla!

Denise, don't mean to hijack. I can put this on my thread(or at least what I remember) on my thread if that would be better.

Nonsense! Spill it! We are having a conversation, this is part of it. ;)

They finished the dig today. After I left for work, they put gravel in the bottom. It was too dark when I got home to take pictures. These are how it looked right before the gravel.

Okay. Well I don't remember that much. But when I called the man that answered the phone said he was Dave. When I told him I wanted samples he said okay and said he was really just walking by the phone and since everyone else was busy he answered. Dave said he was the designer of the tiles, had owned a laser company and worked with optics previously. His tiles are all based on optics. Dave said the challenge was how to make thousands of tiles efficiently being in California and all. He also told me how he made one side irredescent and one side not but honestly it went over my head.

Dave was quite friendly. One of the first things he asked was what I wanted the tile for and I said pool. Then he wanted to know if I had a PB and when I said yes he wanted to know the name. After I told him, Dave was very complementary about their designs, naming some of the people in the firm! He wanted to know how if heard about LightStreams from the PB and I said no, that I heard about it from a pool forum, Troublefree Pool. I told him that everyone raved about his tile on this site. He seemed kinda interested and asked me the name again. I thought he might be writing it down.

When we were talking samples, I told him I was thinking of PebbleSheen Blue Surf. He was very familiar with PT since he designed their glass (as he called it). When I asked "Glass Beads?" He said no, not those, they're low quality! LOL! He meant the tiles PT now sells.

I wish I could remember more. i kinda felt like I didn't want to take up too much of his time. But in the end he didn't charge me for the samples which was very nice. He even talked me into a turquoise sample. Dave did say that Peacock is his favorite.

Overall it was a great experience! Sorry I can't tell you more. If anything comes to me, I'll post it on my thread.

That's a GREAT story! You should definately put it in your thread, too, so you have your own record of it within your build. Based on all that, I hope I like one of his times well enough to spend a small fortune on it. I like to support businesses with good owners.

I'm thinking kind of like when you put pea gravel or something in the bottom of a pot before you put in dirt and a plant. It's to help with drainage. I don't know if it's correct about the why for gravel in the pool hole but, it sounds good ;)

It is for drainage and quite common.

I love how these build threads overlap. It makes for such a great community of friends sharing their lives as their pools are built!

Nini, NOW is the time for the tape measure! I am sure they did it right with all you have shared with us about your PB BUT better safe than sorry. Add in about 6 inches for the gunit and plaster.

Have they said when the plumbing and steel will be done? How is your forecast for this weekend? If there is any rain you can get plastic to put over the dirt to help with cave ins.

Kim

No rebar or plumbing today. They are going to "flash" the hole with gunite tomorrow since there is a chance for rain this weekend. Although I had told them no work on Fri Sat or Sun, I'm ok with this to preserve the hole. Too bad I won't get to see it until Monday. It's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home.
