Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

Yes, it's okay to make changes. I was also charged by the perimeter. And each foot is super expensive. So now is the time. Having said that, I wish I'd had more steps and less sunshelf. It looks good, but we don't really use it. And I wish I had not gone 3.5 feet. But the pool builder talked us into that. Less steps which take up more room inside the pool. We don't use our large bench much. But, it's all hindsight. That is the only reason we are reminding you to make any changes now. Once they start putting in the rebar and shoot the gunite, it's too late.
I am just trying to help. You sound happy with your concessions. We are rooting for you to get the most for your money. As you said it's an expensive toy. [emoji3]

7:00 AM on the dot and they are here working! It's a chilly morning. The bobcat (the new machine they dropped of yesterday) and the excavator are warmed up and in full swing!

I told you all that I was mentally trying to work out the situation ....

Hubby and I talked about doing a long bench along the left end (deck by the pergola and firepit) but decided to just keep the corner benches.
When the guys arrived this morning, I spoke to them about my stair changes. I told them to make them run along the deck toward the sunshelf. The head guy and I differed about the width, he said 36", I said nope- don't want them that wide-they don't need to be that wide-do 24", he insisted on 30" :/ so 30" it is. BUT, I'll have my stairs with my lower step height and I'll bling them up with my pretty tile, the benches aren't taking up otherwise usable play/swim space but yet there is "butt space".
The other thing I lost with the long bench yesterday was an umbrella hole opposite the one on the sunshelf. I wanted this for the volleyball net. Maybe I can get them to put a sleeve in the ground behind the wall....

I love my cheerleaders!!! You guys are the best!! Thank you for all the prayer and encouragement!

I work again at 3, but I'll get some pictures up later today. More progress in process!

Marla! That looks great!! However, my drawing was not "exact" . The sunshelf is set back some, (although not as far as I would have liked), and the area where you placed the steps (great idea!) there is a only about a foot and a half to two feet available before we run into the 5' foot from the house code restriction.

Here's what we are doing. Next I have to work on getting the steel/Gunite peeps to make the step height more reasonable than 12". That's high for a short girl and too high for a short girl in her 70's.

Could you flip the steps and make them come off the sunshelf, like you originally had on just one side? Do you have 30" on the left to add to the pool or would it be past the 5' restriction?

That was how I had originally had the steps- coming off the sunshelf but now the sunshelf is flush with the pool wall and not sticking out so we preserve as much width through the middle as possible. I don't believe at this point that they would be willing to re-form that area. We have a few feet we could go but I'm not feeling up to the fight I think it would take.

Are those benches in the corners? I can easily imagine sitting there with arms resting on the coping -- and a glass of wine nearby ;-)

Yes! Exactly!! It's gonna be good.

I think you both have it! THAT is going to be AWESOME! NICE job working it out!

Following your pool. Wow, on all the delays and all the utility wires too. You are a trooper! It's going to be awesome:rockon: when it's done. I have had to make so many adjustments and have limited funds too and wonder if I am skimming too much and now wondering if my 3.5 is too shallow and my steps too high. ugh! "It will all work out as it is meant to be" is my montra.

Hi Wendy!
Thanks for taking the time to follow along. It's been a journey for sure! But with the journey comes patience and growth if we let it. God is good and what I will end up with is infinitely better than my "before" pictures.

I read your build as well. I'm with you on the amoebas!!! *shudder* I warn my kids every year to stay away from splash pads and the lakes here in Ok because of them. Another great reason to have a pool.

Best thing I can tell you is read as many threads that are similar to your type of pool and you will learn from their choices, their mistakes, and their modifications and recommendations. This site has been invaluable for all of those things as well as the "virtual" friendships.

I'm looking forward to seeing yours come along.
BTW- my daughter has a chocolate lab with green eyes named Godiva.

Just ordered some samples from Lightstreams! My brother in law is a plumber, he gave me his license number so I could order it at the contractor's discounted price! Still expensive, but not as bad! Oh, and they are not charging me for the samples. I didn't ask, they offered :)
It's a good day!

Whoo-hooo! This is exciting news, especially considering the contractors discount and free samples! I can't wait to see what you end up choosing!

A chocolate lab with green eyes named Godiva? That is the cutest ever! My blue lacy's name is Pickle. I guess that's what happens when you let the littles name your dog. [emoji23] She's solid black so I don't know where they got it.

The pool is going to be beautiful and relaxing! And yea on them being back out this morning. Lots to be said for forward momentum! Can't wait to see the tiles!
