Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

You said interior water to water. Does that mean you already subtracted for gunite?

Can you put a bench along your entire straight back wall? That's one thing we're doing. As I understand it, the perimeter is the biggest individual factor that effects price so you should definitely get a credit I would think. Also, read your contract because technically they are no longer building you the pool that you signed and contracted to build. That may give you some negotiating power back. Just something I'd look into.

Maybe make a little bit of an L shape by extending your shelf all the way to the left and making the left side of it a bench and wide steps? More usable space for the kids to play and wide steps since they won't be in the corner. Doesn't seem like that would hit your easement since your house doesn't go as far back on that side.

By the way... Which depths did you decide? I'm 4'9 (and a half) and we're deciding this. I'm thinking 3'6" as water always seems deeper than actual posted depth in pools and I don't want it up to my neck.

THANKS for the pictures of the littles! SO CUTE! That is what it is all about! They will not care about anything other that nini has a pool they can swim and play in!

We have your back. Do what is best for YOUR yard and your family.

HUGS and kisses to the littles from Aunty Kim!

Kim (tell your girls THANK YOU for letting the biggers enjoy pre-school!)

We have a 7x7 sun shelf and can squeeze two loungers on it. Our 7x7 spa is located with almost half of it under our rear porch roof and isn't a problem.

Here's some more pictures from today's adventures. They were stalled on their work this afternoon due to a machine being repaired. Apparently the repair was supposed to be finished this morning but it hadn't even been started when they went to pick it up this AM. The head guy was upset about it.

These guys are very nice and don't seem to mind my questions. I think they enjoyed seeing the little ones.

I'm sorry for the dramatic freakout this morning. It didn't go the way I expected. After so much time, planning, and stress, then to lose the bench, my steps and be (what I thought was) 3' narrower it just felt like the whole thing was going to be a disappointment. I'm grateful that we didn't lose as much of the width as I was previously led to believe. The other things will get worked out.

The framing and the start of the dig is done. The deeper work will commence tomorrow AM. They must have come up with another machine because there was just one excavator in the yard when I left for work and they had said they were stalled until tomorrow, now there is a second machine back there. It's too dark to tell what it is.

The last picture is the way the yard looked when I left.

That still looks great! For reference, mine is only a little wider at 13' and it looks good in person. Yours will be the same, 11' may be a bit more narrow than you wanted, but, it will look larger in person and will provide plenty of enjoyment for all!

Thanks Orlando! I am much happier with the 13'2", but you're right. I would have been (and will be) happy just having any pool

The gunite is pretty thick. I'm not sure, but between 8" and a foot on the raised beams. Maybe that is the difference.

Janny- Before I left, while the guys were still here, I asked the head guy to explain which lines were which, so I could measure the interior of the gunite shell once they left. I actually thought I'd be out there with the first rising of the sun before they arrived to get my measurements. It just worked out that they left a few minutes before I left for work. It gave me just enough time to measure and make it to work by the skin of my teeth. I even got a good parking spot!

Could you relocate shelf to the left end? Just curious.

Maybe, but at this point I'm weary of all the changes and I have already ok'd the framing. I had wanted the shelf set back into the patio more so as to use as much of our space as possible. Now I'm thinking I should have done a cut out with a 3 sided bench and a table. Too late. It is what it is.
Thank you for the suggestion, though, Janny! I appreciate it.

I didn't need to subtract or add for gunite. They have the waterline and the gunite line drawn. I just asked which lines were which.

I'm not sure about the full length bench, I'd need to ask my husband. We wanted the length for lap swimming....
Also, the contract states "pool estimate" in terms of size. This gives room to adjust either up or down. We got an additional 1/2' in length, so i'm not going to quibble over it. PLUS, since i work with his wife, he has cut me a deal on a couple of things. He calls it the "friends and family discount".
How did the PB establish the property line? I assume the setback is from that mark?

I guess he went initially from the fence. When we signed, I got him a copy of the platting. It looked like they had very detailed plans they were working from.

You can build over an easement, I did infact I put my whole pool in it.

I appreciate the encouragement, but we can not. BELIEVE ME!! I called EVERYONE to try to get permission or get the easement moved. I was basically told forget even applying. All requests are turned down and it takes months to get the negative answer. This is a no-build utility easement.

That's a great suggestion, but we need the deck space on the left. we are doing a pergola with stubb-out for future kitchen, and a firepit. The house is set further back on that side by 1 1/2'-2' and i thought about doing something there but the pergola comes by that corner and I already approved the framing.

I'm 4'10". We went with 3.6/5.6/4 for a play pool. Both 5 and 5.6 are over my head, so I went with the 5.6 in the middle for safer cannonballs and some of these boys are gonna be tall.

No you cannot in some places. Believe me she knows what is what in her area. Please so not give advice like this that could cause problems down the road. It is better to make sure they know the rules of their area.

Kim

Thanks, friend! They told me we are actually about a 1/2" over into the easement. i'm hoping there isn't an inspector whole is that precise....

The pool can't shift towards the house at all?

Nope, Marian. The code here is 5' off the house

I sure will Kim! And thanks for the support!

Thanks, Chief! I already caved on the subject. I just felt so defeated at that moment that I just couldn't even insist upon it. It'll be ok. I'll have my chair (probably plastic this first year) and hubby will be in the spa :)

I'm so happy. Like Kim said, it will be beautiful. The dig is exciting. Keep us posted.

Thank you! That is my hope. I will keep everyone who cares to read this in the loop, Janny! I'm sure my updates will be nauseating :)

Somehow I lost the new drawing. All will be well. Your optimism is an inspiration.

Marian, when I consider my life growing up and the meager, rocky start of my marriage and even where we were financially 10 yrs ago, I can only shake my head in wonder at where we are now and say that I have been blessed. I made the mistake of tying too much of my emotions in this and not keeping it in perspective. This is a large expensive toy, a luxury item with zero eternal significance, but it is a huge blessing in my life, and, for me personally, I feel like it's a gift from God. I'm grateful.

Oh, I deleted that since the width was wrong. I didn't want to get newcomers confused...

All rough starts aside... They dug today! You're officially underway! Congratulations!

TRUE THAT, twinkiesmommy!!! BTW- my mom is an identical twin

I just felt so defeated at that moment that I just couldn't even insist upon it. It'll be ok.

I admire the positive attitude about it all!

Just because you okayed the framing doesn't mean you can't call him back and reevaluate before they come back out though. If you're truly okay and at peace with the way it is, that is one thing, but if there is something that might be a possible option within your parameters that you think you might like better, whether it be a bench, table, or change to a shelf, call him up and insist on a conversation before any more work happens. You're only defeated if you give up. Giving up and acceptance are two different things. I'm praying for your courage, strength, and definitely patience throughout this process. I really believe everything happens for a reason. If we look closely, sometimes we can figure out His why! Maybe it was for something better, or maybe it was a reminder not to get too caught up. Maybe it was to help you assert yourself. You get to decide that but make sure you are standing up for yourself and what you really want with the builder. ❤️ We'll be your cheerleaders either way!

What a sweet and encouraging post! Twinkiesmommy echoes my sentiments exactly. Your perspective is very balanced and edifying and something I've been trying to practice all along. But if there is still room for discussion with your PB and you're up for it, do not hesitate. But, either way, as Twinkie said, we'll be here cheering for you all the way!

Denise I agree with Twinkies. Now that you've slept on it and the initial shock is over, think about anything you might want to change. Remember- it's your money! So what if it delays you a few days? You've waited this long. I'm just trying to say if it isn't what you want, don't settle. If you are fine with it then that's great too.

Congratulations on the start Nini! I'm sorry to hear about the setback I know just how that feels to have planned and planned and then find something has to change, we discovered a rather large easement too. But sounds like it's not too much smaller and I found that after the dig and pour getting in it feels much larger than on paper. Those kids will love it. Great stone choices too. Can't wait to see more progress now! :)
