Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

Sure is coming along nicely! I really like the glass tile! We are using something similar for marker tiles. Wish I had the budget for to do the overflow in them! Those scuppers are really cool. Details like that make the whole project for me. You are really going to enjoy them!

Hopefully we are getting plastered this week or next also.(That just sounds wrong.. or right...!) What type of plaster finish are you going with?

Human nature strikes again in the pattern. I do not really see it but even when you try to be random a pattern will start to happen no matter how hard you try not to  I like what I see and I am sure everyone who sees the pool will think it is awesome!

Can they shift them this way and that to even them up?

Interesting on the cap stone work.......I bet it is harder to do that way so..........picked the easy way out.

 you are getting closer to getting them out of your yard and life!

Kim:cat:

Hubby really likes the stonework. I don't dislike it. It just took me a bit to see the pattern and now I can't "unsee" it. Lol!
They didn't finish yesterday. I think they will be done today.
Poor guys. No one was expecting rain. They left everything out and uncovered. Well, it was raining when I got up this morning. It's stopped now but everything is wet.

Too late for any shifting of the scuppers. It was too late by the time I got home from work and measured since the wall was up and they were rocked into it. Our only choice was to leave it or have them tear the wall out, get the plumbers out to reposition them (again) and then redo the wall. I just didn't have it in me to go through all of that. It's just too much. I'll live with it. It'll bug me but it won't affect our ability to use the pool or the water feature.

PB says plaster Monday....

Technobuyer- we are going with Finest Finishes Radiant Fusion Topaz. And I'm praying they don't screw this up :)

Once the masons leave, the pool needs cleanup, the yard needs clean up and grading, equipment needs to be set, pergola needs to be built, electric needs to be run.
I'm hoping to order the firebowls next week. They will take 2-3 months to get here as they are custom made.

Sorry to hear about he lack of symmetry. I've had that problem along along with house, pool and any contractor. I do the best I can to try to get them to correct where I can and then have to live with it. I'm detail oriented and most contractors and employees these days are not. Mosts of our friends, guests and relatives will not notice.

Anyway looks beautiful and will get done and you will be enjoying it soon. Thought mine would never get done but getting plastered today!

I'm the same way, Irwin. I'm an artist (of sorts) and I just "see" things others don't typically notice. I can't help it, it's the way I'm wired. Very detail oriented. It's a blessing and a curse, lol!
Congratulations on plaster today! I'll try to peek in on your build. I'm working again today but I'll find a few minutes!

Yes, Kim! The end is in sight! I'm nervous about it though. I'm praying nothing goes wrong with the plaster...

Just spoke w/ PB-

Pool clean up is supposed to be tomorrow. When they are done, I am supposed to lay out the trim tiles where and how I want them. Tile setter will be here Friday to set them.

Equiptment set is supposed to happen Friday, maybe tomorrow but most likely Friday.

Electrician will be here Monday with the plaster guys. I got the ok to have him do a few extra things for us while he is here. Our AC breaker keeps tripping and probably needs to be replaced.

Don't have a date for the pergola yet. We are going to have them add at least 1 outlet inside the pergola for a radio or fan or whatever.

Wish I was on vacation the next 2 weeks, but OT is what makes this all possible!! ;)

Denise, I would get more than one outlet for the pergola. That will probably be where cell phones and such will be left (it's shaded!). Are you putting in a ceiling fan?

I agree. You have to remember that power strips and multi plugs are not an option outdoors. You need enough built in plugs for anything you might want to plug in.

And if you can, spread out the plugs. It's hard to predict where you will need a plug.

It baffles me that anyone with a tape measure or placing things, especially on a straight line, aren't more precise with their measurements. I'm not a woodworker or stone person, but seriously??? I quilt a little and you must be w/in 1/8th or 1/16 if possible. And 'measure twice, cut once'. Not that difficult. I watched my tile and deck guys time and time again, just plop something quickly without a second thought how it would look! Lazy and/or no pride in their work. You can really see it in someone you're watching if they care about their craft. My son's double sink vanity had to be installed twice. One sink was 4 inches from the outside wall, the other was 8 inches from it's outside wall. I saw him measuring, but didn't think I needed to measure myself to check his work. I've learned my lesson. The second time, the sinks were still off by 1 and 1/2 inches. Most won't notice it, but it really bugged me that the second time around he couldn't get it a little better.

I know exactly what you mean about just wanting to be over with it all. There were many things I let slide at the end. It had become exhausting and overwhelming to do everything on my own. A few people have made comments about such and such and why I didn't catch it or make the workers fix it. Until you've been through such a huge and expensive project, you can't understand. One thing for sure, I learned a great lesson in letting go of things!!!

The pictures of the work on the previous page look great to me! It WILL be different when all is done. You don't seem to be the type to hold a grudge, so when you see the whole project completed, all these sour things during the build will fade away. Instead of visions of incompetent workers and mistakes filling up your mind, lovely visions of holidays and fun playing with grandchildren, family, and friends will begin to replace the bad ones. You'll see yourself lounging or floating in pure bliss!!! The rest will be a distant memory - there only for you to understand what a future pool owner is going through with their build.

Nick and I were laughing and telling Matt (older brother, my son) how when we first signed for the pool, we couldn't wait for the pool to be ready by March 6th, Nick's bday. Then we hoped for Easter, then April for my bday, then Memorial Day, then 4th of July!!! Lol!!!! How naïve we were! But there have been some fast builds documented here on TFP especially this spring. So it does happen. I just wish I had been better prepared. Our pool was filled by July 24th, long after expected but just as fun.

For me, it's harder to wait the closer I get to the end of something. Hold on, Denise!!! You really have no choice. Lol!!

Hugs, Suz

I love your stone and I don't think anyone will notice the offsets and flaws. Especially if there's tasty appetizers, a decent margarita or other cold beverages :)

I do share the previous comments about supervising. It's just like your pool water management, a kitchen reno, or washing your car. Someone else can do it, and you might get a brilliant job, but very few people are going to care about it as much as you do. I don't care when they finish the job and think I'm fussy or worse; they're long gone anyway.

I can't wait to see some plaster and water in that pool. It's going to be spectacular!

The long journey of building for many of us is finally coming to an end. I don't have the words to describe what we've been through and what will follow but Suz has said it so eloquently that I must quote it below:

Thanks Suz for putting it into words as only you can.

Pool twins!!!! To the bitter end!

It was a race at the start with our digs and gunite and was almost a neck and neck finish but looks like you pulled ahead at the end. We're probably still 2 - 3 weeks out. At one point there was talk of 4th of July for us, but our fractured waterline tile issue put an end to that.

Your stonework looks great. It also sounds like you're still happy with your builder even with the delays. It's the same with us. Things happen.

Maybe I missed it but is there a sketch or anything of what the pergola will look like?
