Helllllloooooo out there in the pool universe, new here

High gang,
FIRE UP here. We moved from the over crowded CALIFORNIA right at 4 years ago, to our brand new home in Lake Havasu City AZ. We love it!! Yep, it gets a bit warm here for sure. It's hovering around 98 at the time of this message, about 7:48 in the evening. Anyway, our home here is 4 years old and our pool is 3.5 years old. So, yep, we had one built shortly after moving in. It's a simple pool. About 32'-34' long (can't remember) and about 12' wide, at its widest point. It's a basic free-form semi-kidney shaped pool with what's known as a baja step. It's also got a sit-a-round bench with a table. At the other end is a wall step/seat. Many in our area build a shallow-semi deep-shallow design. Ours is a shallow - deeeeeep, period. Yep, we have a deep end in ours.

The perimeter is all Travertine tile. ZERO concrete present anywhere. We have a raised bond beam on the longer, straighter side. On top of that raised bond beam are two spill pots. The waterline tile is not your traditional glazed dark blue stuff. It's more of a satin finish desert sand type tile. The raised bond beam is decorated with what's called "stacked stone". We, the wife and I, did all the design, along with a tad bit of help from the builder. When the contract was signed, the pool builder was to do it all, pool, Travertine tile (miles of it) "Astro-turf" type stuff here and there, a few Pigmy palms, an umbrella in the baja step and the table, and, that's that. We love it. Oh, by the way, without any help, the water temp as we speak, is right at 90 degrees.

Scott,

Welcome to TFP.. a great place to find the answers to all of your new pool questions... :shark:

Thanks for the Intro... Now all you need to do is float over to one of our Subject-Orientated Sub-Forums and start asking away.

First off, I want to thank you all for the nice comments. Very much appreciated. riley00dog, to answer your question, it's a regular white plaster with ultra blue quarts crystals mixed in with the plaster. When the pool is plastered, it's all pure white. But, they come in as the plaster is curing and, give it a brushing with a semi-soft brush and some, either muriatic or, sulphuric acid to wash just a tiny bit of the "soup" away which, in tern, leaves more of the crystals showing. The color of the crystals is much darker than the color of the pool you see in the pics. When we were talking with the contractor about the building of the pool, we mentioned concrete around it all as usual. But, he introduced us to "Travertine" tile and, well, once the wife saw that, it was all over. She kept adding and adding more and more to the entire back yard. So, as a result, not one inch of concrete is in our back yard. It's all Travertine.

P.S. I tried to post a couple of pics of a close up of the plaster with the ultra blue crystals but, I get a text block that states I've exceeded my "quota". Hmmm. I'm not sure what that means. It looks as if I'm bringing down my other pics that I posted earlier in to this thread which, would apparently be too much in size or pixels etc. for this one post. Moderators, help?

I thought it had a white base to it. The blue quartz adds a beautiful dimension. I’m with your wife... when I saw the travertine I didn’t want anything else! Wish we had the space to do a large area like yours. Well done on your pool area. This is a fantastic place to have all your questions answered.

Hi Scott,

We are remodeling our pool this spring and I was curious about your travertine decking. Is it travertine tile on top of a concrete base or it it travertine pavers set in a sand base? We are looking at using tumbled travertine tile on top of our current concrete decking. We question whether it will get too hot in the TX sun and how slippery it will be when wet. We are using tumbled tiles, not honed, for more traction.
Did you seal your travertine with a penetrating sealer?

Thanks!
