Our pool is going to be closed on Monday by a pool service who will be blowing out all of the returns, winterizing all of the equipment and adding antifreeze. I get a discount on the closing if I vacuum out the pool and add the winterizing chemicals myself so I plan on doing this today instead of waiting until the day before because heavy rain is expected tomorrow. I plan on vacuuming out the pool, adding polyquat and putting the cover on to keep leaves out today, and running the pump for 24 hours with the cover on to mix in the polyquat. Before I do all of this, I have a few quick questions:

Since an inch of rain is expected tomorrow that might lower the PH, do I need to lower the PH before adding the polyquat since it is 7.8-8.0?

If it is raining hard after the pump runs for 24 hours, do I need to go out in the rain to turn the pump off to prevent polyquat from being filtered out? Or would it be okay if the pump runs for a day and a half after it is added?

Since an inch of rain is expected right before closing, should we just close at SLAM level this year instead? I normally get my pool up to SLAM level before heavy rains like this so I wonder if closing at SLAM level might be preferable this year because of all of the predicted rain the day before closing. I bought the polyquat because my water temperature is in the mid 60s now but the forecast is calling for freezing temperatures after closing so it won’t take long before the water temperature is below 60.

Yes, lower the pH to around 7.4-7.6.

Keep your pump running. Polyquat does not filter out.

Just follow your normal closing procedure. The rains are not going to change anything by much.
